Third party aircraft for console

Morning everyone.

I’m new to the FS world and picked up a XSX specifically to play FS, so please excuse my ignorance with this question.

Can someone please, explain like I’m five, why some third party dev’s seem to be favouring PC over the console when it comes to additional freeware and paid dlc? I don’t want to come across as entitled but I (wrongly) assumed console would see the same aircraft as pc.

As someone who just wants to fly commercial aircraft which I can view at any major airport, the current lack of choice in the marketplace is disheartening. Reading articles from FBW re their A320 & A380 adds to that. From my perspective it feels like the console simmers are getting the bad end of the deal (I’m sure many of you don’t care if you’re on pc…).

I know there is the 737 & 777 on out there but from what I’ve read it’s best to stay away. Am I resigned to flying the default A329n and 747-800 forever or will we actually see some great dlc make it’s way to console?

Xbox addons are limited to what’s allowed in the marketplace only. PC addons can be installed from external sources, the marketplace is pretty hard to get access to sell addons on so it’s avoided where possible.

A lot of products require frequent updates as new updates for the sim come out, the marketplace delays these updates by up to a month, by which time the sim is already about to get its next update so it’s not worth the time to even bother with it.

Also, the SDK that addons are developed with is relatively tricky to figure out how to use, there’s a years worth of experience with making addons work on PC but only a couple months on Xbox, I am sure a lot of these addons will come to Xbox at some point but it will be limited for a while in terms of what products come to Xbox, there just isn’t the resources there for it yet.

The models supplied to Microsoft for PC and Xbox are identical. Microsoft performs some wizardry or other at their end after we have supplied the package. It is up to developers to decide whether they wish to see their aircraft on both console and PC or not - I pick both but some don’t. I’m not sure why.

I can’t really speak to airliners as I don’t generally build them ( Concorde aside ) but aircraft do take a long time to build at any level so I think that it’s just a time issue. They will appear eventually. For now, refer always to review scores in the Marketplace and reviews of aircraft before buying, to make sure you don’t end up with a “dud” :+1:

I think it’ll just take time.

The sim has been on PC for a year, Xbox for 6 weeks.

Some things will never come to Xbox but I’m certain much more will.

Thanks to those who’ve responded. It makes sense that aircraft on console will appear later than PC. Fingers crossed we actually see them.

Fellow Series X player here,

It’s still early days for us as compared to PC. From what it looks like, the next year is going to bring in big changes. For the rest of the year the sim should be finally receiving the tweaking it’s needed to get things stable and performing good again.

Long story short…

Consoles have always had a much more limited access to User Generated Content for a number of reasons.

The longer story…

With regards MSFS2020 Microsoft/Asobo have provided an in-game marketplace through which in house as well as 3rd party content can be purchased and used. At present this is the only avenue available to the Xbox as it is not possible for Xbox users to purchase from external stores and import those into the Xbox as a PC user might. This is simply the nature of using a closed ecosystem.

Over time the aircraft and sceneries etc available to the Xbox market will increase. Microsoft can be quite slow even updating products in the marketplace for PC so a little patience will be required.

I am absolutely sure that more products will come, after all access to the potential market that Xbox represents is attractive to developers. Give it time.

The bad news?
Naturally there are some things that may require other external softwares in order to function correctly. These can be made to work on a PC but because of the nature of the Xbox these cannot be made to work for that platform.

Also unless Microsoft can allow the Xbox to access to free upload sites like Flightsim.to and download/install external content it will not be possible to enjoy the community created freeware which is hosted on such sites. But this should come as no surprise as it’s pretty much always been like this for console’s.

(Disclosure - I game on both PC and Console. Adding mods to console versions of games I have owned on both platforms has always been a lot more limited than on PC…or not possible at all)

New user here this is my first post, is anyone aware of a place i can go to see upcoming addons for xbox?

I wouldn’t put too much trust in marketplace reviews. From time to time your aircraft or the CRJ appear with a bad rating, though they are excellent products.

True, but there are always those ( for reasons unknown ) who will only ever one-star or five-star something, and it’s not possible for a dev to please all the people all of the time. But over time, a general opinion of a product does build up that can be fairly reliable.
