This app can't open

Hi,

Yesterday morning (Sat), my icon to start MSFS was in black and white, and when I clicked it, I got a message “This app can’t open”

Repair did not work and I eventually reinstalled (took half of Saturday). I played a few hoursw last night and this morning. However, the additional content (profile menu) didn’t get time to install, so I let that run this afternoon(Sun). Now when I check MSFS seems to have CTD’d but also, the icon is black and white and the app again won’t start “This app can’t open”

Does anyone have any experience with this? Not looking forward to reinstalling, but honestly don’t want to bother until I understand what is happening; if I don’t address the root cause I will be doing it again.

I have also tried the procedure of signing in and out of the MS Store, reseting cache etc, but it hasn’t made a difference. MS Store states that MSFS needs to be repaired, and that a reinstall will repair it.

I know how to short-term fix this (reinstall). I am more concerned about preventing it from happening again.

Root cause?

Cheers
Richard

Have you checked your antivirus software? You may need to add an exclusion to the MSFS install directory in case it’s interfering/blocking MSFS running.

For example, for Windows Defender you’d follow the instructions in the windows defender section here: https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015999539-Loading-issues-stuck-on-loading-screen-long-loading-times-stuck-on-black-screen-etc-(edited)

Hi @TenPatrol

Tried your suggestion but I can’t access the Security Policy

It has happened again after trying to run updates.
