This is how MFS 2024 runs on Series X

Did you have non-aircraft add-on from MSFS2020 ?

Google translate!

I have spent almost 2000 hours in MSFS2020, and have pumped hundreds and hundreds of euros worth of addons into it. But where 2020 was still reasonably playable (very handicapped in many aspects compared to PC and still has its share of problems), 2024 completely misses the mark.

I was always a fan of airliners, and routes that are also done in real life. Since Free Flight is so terribly bugged in 2024, and Asobo has decided not to allow all non-airplane add-ons in 2024 at this time because they cause too many problems, I’ve been trying for the past 1.5 weeks to to put on Career mode. At first it looked ok,but soon you can’t ignore the countless bugs. It has taken away all desire from me to go any further.

Given the history with MSFS2020 on consoles, I have very little confidence that they will get MSFS 2024 playable on consoles in a reasonable time. The list of shortcomings is truly enormous.

The only luck for me personally is that I stuck with the Standard edition, which is included in Gamepass…

This product is truly a disgrace. I even left out the graphics part.

Try turning off PG. On PC there’s a bazillion 3d trees and it runs like butter with PG off vs a muddy apocalyptic PG world with very few 3d trees. At least for now, I remember running PG off on XBSX too until the very last SUs. Seems like more resources for general ground textures too.

Completely agree, I’m not confident we’ll see a recovery given the current state of the sim on console. Somehow they’ve managed to create a mess of long load times, terrible LOD, shimmering, aliasing, and stuttering. But hey, at least we’ve got barely better trees and slightly improved lighting. All of that, and somehow performance is worse than 2020.

That’s just performance/graphics - don’t forget that the mouse is completely unusable for free look… and I have to select my keyboard control profile every time I restart the sim… and I the hardware listeners don’t work… and I can’t disable old add-ons… and the sim was unusable for 12 hours after launch (I’m one of the lucky ones).

I’m giving up on this sim for now. It’s not worth my time.

I haven’t had any issues with terrible LOD, shimmering, aliasing and stuttering on my Series X.

The performance and load times are much better than they were in 2020 for me.

You might want to try a re-install to clear up some of your issues.

Agreed. I have seen shimmering of trees on the horizon in bad weather but that’s about it.

I’m on a 70mb connection in the UK on an Xbox series X and it takes 2 minutes to get from Xbox Home Screen to the main menu. From selecting my gate and pressing the button to fly, even with a non-cached airliner, it takes less than a minute for me to be doing the walk around. I’ll need to time it but I feel as though I can be in the cockpit in 2024 before I would even have been on the menu screen in 2020. A huge improvement

I did a reinstall a few days ago and also set my rolling cache to 50Gb and haven’t had any issues since aside from stuttering at large airports due to the number of static aircraft

A list of things of what’s wrong, just playing the Career. Just career.

  • Graphically, a step backwards compared to FS2020. Mainly LOD related.
  • The AI translations are sometimes too stupid to be true.
  • The career mode is bugged
  • The earning system is bugged
  • The customer comments are super repetitive and very forced.
  • There are a lot of undeveloped elements in the scenery.
  • The menu structure is clunky and incomplete.
  • For each device, it is very questionable what works (AP, navigation, etc.)
  • Penalty points are wrongly handed out in the performance system.
  • The sim hangs as soon as you select a larger airport or aircraft.
  • Frame rates below 10 fps very regular
  • ATC gives wrong taxi instructions
  • The visual navigation aids consist mainly of brackets. This results in a kind of flying through tunnels.
  • Some devices require controls that can’t be performed on the xbox controller, such as throttle detent.
  • All assignments that are available as a pilot can be arranged at the touch of a button. Previously you chose your ATC commands, now the arrow is to the left and everything is turned off.

When you reinstall do you delete your save file as well? So starting from scratch?

No time soon. It’s taken MSFS 2020 4+ years to get to the stage where it is now. It mostly works on XBSX, mostly as originally advertised, although it will never match many of its developers’ bold claims, and may now even be slowly, quietly abandoned to fall into disrepair as all efforts and resources are poured into MSFS 2024.

MSFS 2024 is likely to undergo a similar long, slow, laborious path of patches, fixes, updates, etc - years long, often game-breaking, and never quite complete. Perhaps this is just the nature of the beast.

I’m in it for the long haul on XBSX, although I somehow sense that four years from now, we might be looking at an XBSX sim not very different from the one we are looking at now. The possibility for technical improvement on a closed system like XBSX is minimal. Expectations must be set accordingly.

Deleting the save file will get rid of any progress and button assignments that you may have changed. Only need to get rid of the reserved space which clears the rolling cache. Doing so will make the first load of the sim take a bit longer down in the 20% loading area but once it hits near 90% it should go straight in from there

To read your post rating the product as a ā€œdisgraceā€ reinforces my decision not to buy it but to stick with 2024 for the foreseeable.
I spent my money on the exceptional Just Flight RJ and decided to wait and see before switching to 2024.
Reading reviews like yours makes me think I probably won’t ever switch across because it’s clear that a few patches won’t suffice to improve it.
It’s a failed product already ( especially for the Xbox users) and personally I think someone needs to put it out of its misery before it’s too late.

Tems like ā€œdisgraceā€ might sound very strong, but i just can’t understand why they released this product in its current state.

I feel sorry for people at Microsobo who, perhaps, voted against it…

Embarrassing is another term I would use. It’s MUCH worse than Cyberpunk 2077 on release day, which I’ve beaten on base PS4 model two weeks after release. And Sony removed it from PS Store for some months.

On the Xbox, is anyone able to do a flight plan on the globe page and have it automatically loaded into the flight computer? I think its ridiculous how you spend all that time preparing a flight only to have to input all the details in the MCDU.

A very small compilation (there are hundreds more) of bugs in MSFS 2024:

So when you get to Level 37, you can walk on water? Quite an endorsement.

It will most certainly have been a commercial decision to realease 2024 when they did. Black Friday ( although there were no Black Friday deals) and the Christmas market will have been the main factors.

After more than 11 days of launch:

  1. The graphics are still extremely deficient (even more so when comparing the load of scenarios for PC clients), not only when exploring ā€œon footā€ (which is terrible on Xbox unlike PC) but in the views in general. It has nothing to do with the hardware because once they load the objects and textures in some specific spots we can see that the content is there and can be perfectly handled by the Xbox, but something that was already solved on PC has not been solved on Xbox

  2. The controls of the vast majority of aircraft are still terrible, except particularly for the Cessna 172 Skyhawk which behaves in a much more consistent way

  3. The compatibility of peripherals is still a disaster, to the point that there are unrecognized axes of yokes and pedals, preventing, for example, configuring the brakes

  4. The free view is still impossible to operate with the mouse (both inside the cabin and outside), because every time you try (right click maintained and move the cursor) it simply goes crazy in an uncontrollable spiral

My congratulations to PC users who already have a game closer to what was promised… I regret that Xbox users are once again treated as second-class customers even though we have paid the same price for the same product

For example, regarding the graphics, this is what the Miami Zoo looks like… ruined area, not a single form of life (neither animals nor visitors)… absolutely disappointing
