Wow wow wow Microsoft this simulator is a dream come true! I have been flying sims since they came into existence and always dreamed of one day having a simulator like this!
Just stunning, the graphics, the flight models, everything I am instantly in love with this sim it’s amazing you guys have done one hell of a job! I can only imagine what this will be once it’s evolved for a year or two!
Didn’t think a sim like this would come along…amazing you guys deserve a tremendous amount of credit for this piece of work!
Thank you for creating this simulator …although I may not leave my house much anymore That’s the bad news of all of this haha
Awesome job Microsoft …worlds best ever nothing has ever come close and this is at launch …■■■■ great job guys!
Totally agree. Credits go to Asobo though. Microsoft “just” provided the cash.
No it isn’t.
Only children will say it isnt when they are playign on easy or regular and not Trainign real modes.
Ill sit them down, load landing in hong kong in cross winds and watch them scream like children when they can’t figure out how to angle wings tips down at angles into wind and fight it then suddenly turn the nose and push forward with flaps up ASAP or flip.
Ah, so someone disagrees with your opinion then they must be a child.
Really love this sim, the hobby has been saved.
Wasn’t really into flying lately because every sim looked so terribly outdated compared to other games, and performance always depending on a single CPU thread.
VR made it better for a while because it’s so different, but after that pancake XP11 or P3D wasn’t an option anymore. Now i feel like a kid again.
I’m so very grateful for MS to have continued after FSX. The only thing I care about now is for all the 3rd party developers to get on the platform and give us some amazing addons. Carnedo has the 182 already and I’m waiting for the PMDG heavys.
I’ve been waiting and biding my time on X-Plane 11.5. I’ve got all the other Microsoft Flight Sim products ever produced in my collection and this is definitely THE one I’ve been waiting for.
It’s been tough watching all the YouTube videos from testers. Now it’s here and I’m ecstatic. Runs well on my machine, but not at Ultra. Going to have to tune it.

Mate I’m not knocking how you feel as everyone is entitled to an opinion, but just curious why you don’t care for it?
I only got I yesterday and have only spent 10 hours or so in game so far but as far as I’m concerned everything I have tried is pretty flawless and just a pleasure in every way …flying over my own home and my childhood home and actually seeing them in photorealistic fashion amazing …great virtual way to go sightseeing around the world…I mean sure some cities are not complete with the photogrammetry yet and there is some work to be done .lbut this just launched and seems to be a great launch so far And I think will be beyond amazing once it matures …I have seen so many big titles that were so much worse at launch …for me anyways this is the kind of sim I always spwished for while playing fsx or xplane prepar etc …when vr is implemented with head tracking etc this is going to be even more amazing …
But yeah mate your opinion is valid and it’s how you feel, would just love to know why you feel that way out of curiosity what do you feel they got wrong?
It also seems to be really reasonable on system specs …I have a high end gaming rig but it’s four years old now and running 2 1070s in sli and it seems to handle he game very well on high settings …I didn’t expect it to do so well given the rig is 3-4 years old so that’s a nice surprise aswell that people with a machine a couple years old can still enjoy this unlike some titles that come out requiring the latest and greatest hardware to have a decent experience…
Yaggamanchu,
Maybe it didn’t come across, but as a refresh, I’m very excited about it. Love it.
Tuning comment is only regarding squeezing the best frame rate out.
And part of the technology. Bing Maps and Azure for example.
That’s great for you but for some their home is not represented in any way shape or form. The results vary massively and are fantastic for some and very disappointing for others.
It’s a game with nice graphics but has nothing to do with a real simulator.
@anon69344611 I can understand the disappointment when you were hoping your area had full photogrammetry and you get there and it’s just basic graphics so far …I read somewhere that with time most of the world will be mapped so I guess with some time you may get what you were hoping for as the game matures…maybe even third party add ons for your area with super detailed photogrammetry.
@PilzRundung4799 mate with all due respect this is both a game or a simulator depending on what the user wants. You can adjust the settings to make this as realistic and difficult as you want it to be or the people that just want to sightsee can easily get up there without learning a million buttons And how to handle a plane…pretty genius really… if you want the dcs Type experience where you have to flip every switch, start the engine and systems up in proper order make a flight plan and all the rest manually you can have that too if you set it up right. Or when you are feeling lazy let the computer do it all for you …I personally don’t see anything wrong with allowing it to be Super simple for those that wish to just play it like a game …in the end the more popular the game and the more money they make the more it benefits us all as then they will Develop it much further and more third party developers will make copious amounts of add ons for us all…making it usable for the casual player and sightseer aswell was a super smart move …I know so many people with minor interest that tried something like dcs out and realised they would have to learn for weeks just to start the damned plane and dropped it , that kind of software misses out on a huge market of casual players that just want to zip around and have an ace combat type experience…
I am surprised to see quite a bit of negative comments around, each to their own I guess … but for instance why not explain why you don’t think this is a sim and why it’s not great and what you hoped to get out of it that’s missing? Maybe that way if the devs see constructive discussion like that in the forums they will implement things you wished were there and are not …
I’m not knocking anyone’s opinion just suggesting a different way to approach discussing A new release when you are disappointed with it that may help it get developed into what you wanted…
No I wasn’t expecting full photogrammetry at all, I realised that was limited to 400 cities. But nor was I expecting a worse and less accurate interpretation of my street than I get from ORBX in X-Plane. Whatever system Orbx use to populate the UK with buildings for its X-Plane add on, its doing a better job in some respects than the Black-shark system. The ORBX system accurately places Churches, electricity pylons, cell towers, wind turbines, railways and correctly interprets the building type in streets including the number of storeys.
The Blackshark system looks great in places I dont know, but in areas I know well, its a very different story.
I have a love-hate relationship with FS at the moment. Some of it I love, some of it…
Thank you for understanding my point of view. For instance I find it strange that airport flagpoles are popping up while flying. I assume that sort of things can be avoided in a correct setup. But how to do? There is not even a manual.
It’s not that I think they’ve got it wrong, just that they haven’t finished…by a long way…and, of course, that Bing is blatantly inferior to Google.
Lessee here…
The weather is awesome, best I’ve seen in any game (not just sim) ever. However, wind speeds aren’t correct in the slightest and the turbulence you get from hills (even in 0 wind speed) is ridiculous. There’s also lots of reports of wild control inputs on landing…which I suspect is the game thinking there was a gust of wind.
The scenery is very nice but, stemming from Bing maps being low quality and / or out of date, seems incomplete. I’m also not happy that so little attention seems to have been paid to Britain and am taking every opportunity to take a swipe at the French dev team…cos it’s traditional to hate the French.
But then why was a game marketed on it’s high quality depiction of planet earth being sold with payware scenery addons (London) on day 1?
ATC blatantly doesn’t work. Not just the Azure text-to speech issue but the windows offline option can give you a female pilots voice with no way to change it. Immersion killer. Secondly, I have yet to hear another aircraft talking to ATC (AI or otherwise), which is another immersion killer. Thirdly, ATC instructions come out of order (ATC says fly straight in, your pilots response will be ‘cleared to land’). Immersion killer. Fourthly, ATC vector and altitude instructions are way off, follow them and you’ll be flying in to hills. Fifthly…(blimey)…I’d switch to VATSIM for ATC if it worked, but simconnect is messed up and causing a huge performance hit.
Autopilots have also been doing some very strange things, from ignoring autothrottle speeds to set altitudes. I haven’t tried an ILS approach yet after reading several reports of ILS systems bringing 747s down on the grass.
Lighting. Aircraft lights look absolutely…holy 1995 batman. The lights redux addon you get for free with FSX:SE looks soooooo much better and it’s 10 years old.
Other boneheaded design decisions…like active pause which doesn’t…press any key halfway through the loading process…setting manual cache location quality being zoom level dependant (and then not allowing map scrolling). And the pricing…putting a 787 behind a $60 paywall with some other stuff lots of people aren’t really interested in, doubling the price of the game…that’s just outrageous.
And while we’re on the subject of pricing, why was the game more expensive in the UK? French dev team, see? The traditional hatred works both ways.
No gameplay other than landing challenges…which, well, really? That’s it is it? Alright, the last MS FS didn’t have a campaign or career mode but it did have ‘missions’.
But I do think it’s kinda amusing how, whenever anyone complains about a lack of gameplay, they get told it’s a ‘sim’…and anyone who complains about the lack of fidelity in the simulation gets told it’s a ‘game’.
Ok Fanboi. (go on, someone say ok Boomer so I can explain what generation X is).
Alright, alright, wind your necks in it’s not all bad. It is very pretty and when Bing maps has had an update, or 70, it’ll look brilliant. When the winds, lights, ATC and autopilot have been fixed, it’ll be great. When 3rd party addon devs have created a career mode (FSPassengers)…I’ll finally uninstall FSX.
The questions remain though, will the above all be fixed and how long is it going to take?
@anon69344611 fair enough mate! anyone would feel the same if this new supposedly latest and greatest software was not visually as good as your other 10 year old sim! I get it if the areas i really wanted to see looked similar i would have been pretty dissappointed as well! heres hoping once they sort out all the bugs and the game matures that they will fix problems like this and make it enjoyable for all rather than a let down for many!
PilzRundung4799
What do you mean by flagpoles popping up while you are flying?
@SwoopGB
now thats an awesome reply on why you have issues with this software! you are knowledgeable about what the game has and does not have so far and where its problems lie! exactly the kind of discussion that hopefully the devs take notice of and maybe hopefuly do something about all of these issues!
i have to agree with many of them, i still really enjoy the sim but like you said there is very little to do as of yet short of whatever you come up with for yourself! The cities that are complete are pretty spectacular to fly over and fun if you know the area but after awhile you get used to it and its not all that exciting anymore and a properly working simulation would be preferable to super pretty…
given this is launch day im sure we all expected bugs and problems that im sure they will fix. Right now it is neat and has great potential, i bet you as the game matures we will get missions, maybe a campaign …one can hope right… and just overall more to do within it.
Heres something that surprised the hell out of me …i have a 3 year old high end gaming laptop …metabox at the time claimed it was the most powerful laptop in the world full of high end desktop components and it has not disappointed…over the 3 years i have not found a game i can not run on max settings smoothly…i was sure though this game would finally be the one to beat the machine so to speak …my recommended settings were high end but i switched it to ultra and it runs perfectly the only performance problems being my net disconnecting from time to time…this laptop has 2 1070s in an sli config and surprisingly can run in ultra very smoothly. SO if you have a machine that the software reccomends high end as your settings give it a try running in ultra it may work.
swoop you described your issues with the sim very well mate and it makes complete sense why you would be disillusioned with it all given all the hype and how excited everyone was for this to launch! not to mention it is fairly expensive to buy! I am happy as i can run on ultra settings and i got lucky where the areas that i really wanted to see are pretty life like but if my hometown etc was not done and had just regular graphics that lagged behind other 10 year old software i have along with the fact they wanted me to pay extra right from the get go to have proper scenery of where i live i would be pretty pissed aswell !
I get the frustration with all the other problems…atc not working right, wind , lights and other problems but i truly believe these are just teething problems which happen during most launches that they will fix quickly does not help with using it now though and will be a cause of upset for many which is fair enough when someone hoped for more.
everyone’s opinion on this game is valid as its a different experience for each of us!
Im sorry its been a disappointment for you swoop and hope with time they get it all fixed and right where you can enjoy the sim as well mate, it does have the potential to end up being something great as the parts that work now work very well…if they can get everything else up to par we may all end up loving this software in the end…heres hoping!
You can definably switch those points of interest markers off. Your best bet is to go onto YouTube and watch some of the tutorial videos that Squirrel has done. He goes through all the menus and settings which I found helped a lot.
