This launch is UTTERLY ABYSMAL!

For most people 2020 was crashing and then taking an hour to verify packages, and then crashing.

These forums were on fire then just as much as they are today.

Things happen.

Then they should not have architected it to run…ummmm…over the internet… ?

Why not releasing it in a few days and not all in one day?

From a career in high volume software platforms experience, it is probably not an issue with the number of servers allocated but rather some software bottleneck on the server end.

These are hard to discover except under real load. Hopefully solved soon.

Cause that will hardly stop anyone in this modern day and age from changing timezones etc. 2020 - case in point

Hey, I’m not saying this launch is going well.

But I’m saying to breathe a little bit, we’ll all get to fly soon enough.

They should have done a pre-order early release, to get the people up and running that preordered… Then a releases to the masses (GamePass, etc.) a few days later. Live Service games really suffer from this

They should have done a wide beta test or calculate the data flow somehow better yes… i just dont know what they thought this would be. 2020 has also a major data stream up to 80 MBits when you fly low on photogrammetric towns… so i just dont know i am no expert.

So, I feel lucky enough to actually be able to launch the sim and fly (albeit it still takes like 20 mins to load)… but once it does, it does feel a bit more polished than 2020 - I’m also fully into it for VR… so my judgements are based on that.

I get better performance in 2024 than I do in 2020 with VR… so that’s something nice… I need to do a bunch of tweaking still too…

I‘m worried about the general concept of MSFS 2024 now. Will servers be able to provide a stutter free experience? I doubt it this evening.

Maybe yes and maybe i got lucky with the 2020 start… but it was definitely not that absolut striking abysmal disaster like this launch.

That’s typically why staggered releases used to be done but uh yeah… lots of queueing for now ig. Eh, to be expected tho (also once again a great advert for gamepass lol if you play other games, no need to preorder/buy on launch)

Well you know 2020 must also handle millions of people downloading photogrammetry landscapes and cities at one time.

They’ll have it sorted out, it just depends on how long it takes to scale the CDN. I suspect it’ll be fine by tomorrow (I hope).

You say “definitely” but you are exactly one example.

The plural of anecdote is not data.

It seems worse, but it’s not clear how many people have gotten in. For all we know, we tripped some rule at some datacenter and it’s locked out all FS users.

This will be resolved in time, and we’ll all get to fly eventually.

And I’m not in any better a boat than you, I have been stuck at 0% for over an hour…

Better FPS or better smoother frametimes? Maybe even both?

2020 imo was much worse because the download was slow and also much longer. At least I don’t have to deal with that

We‘ll have to wait and see. But I‘m not optimistic right now. I expected something more mature than what we’ve seen tonight.

Anyone else noticed the PC microphone has been switched on? What they trying to gauge… our anger and flowery language?

It’s not just the servers that are the problem and worry me. It’s that the product I saw looked half finished. All the flight planning tools are not there. The EFB is too small to do anything on Xbox. Lots of planes missing. Even the default a320 is missing. All of this is a bit scary. It’s going to be months before this is a finished product.
