Throttle setting Engine at idle or Off

I am using the X56 HOTAS and find that the throttle is very hard to set to idle. In most of the aircraft that I have flown I find that if I lower it too much the engine will cut off. I haven’t flown all the aircraft, I did find one that I could retard the throttle all the way without killing the engines, that was the Diamond DA62. I have tried changing the Throttles sensitivity in both the + and - directions and find that I get the best performance in the + range, however just a touch too much and the engine shoots off even if I try to correct. I would love to hear any suggestions on this Subject.

which airplane?

All the over wing Cessna’s, Cub Crafter, and Shock Ultra so far.

That’s how non-fadec airplanes behave on cold starts in real life. That’s why on a cessna you will rarely go full idle on the ground except when you do an engine run-up before take off. It’s not about the controller sensitivity.

I find that even as low as 15% I get engine cutoff. One of the problems this causes is, the only way to maintain a slow taxi speed is to constantly apply brakes on and off with the Throttle set higher then should be. I would also not that I have flown other Flight Sims including all the pervious MS Sims that didn’t have this behavior.

do you have decoupled the two half of the throttle handle?

And where have you put your micture? It can kill your engine, if its not in the right position!

In real life planes are quite different what comes to taxiing. DA40NG speeds up easily during taxi even if throttle is set to idle. Especially if there’s any tailwind. It’s also quite impossible to make even shallow turn or just taxi straight line without using differential braking due to free-castering nose wheel. Very annoying plane to taxi but great plane to fly. C152 tends to turn with pedals but C172 with heavier diesel engine just keeps pushing straight forward if differential braking is not used.

Cessna’s engine should not stall on idle after few minutes running. At least I wouldn’t take off on plane doing that :grinning: Usually during taxi you need to power to idle unless you want to use brakes on power. On the other hand idling engine long enough could foul spark plugs. P28 Arrow was very good at that. You needed to lean the mixture during taxi.

No. After you asked I tried if in a signal engine plane and I got No Power input without moving both sides together.

I have been playing with automixture set to on in the assistance setting. I will try turning it off and playing with mixture.

ok, in the x56 default profile the leftthrottle lever is assigned to mixture and the right one is the actual throttle

Was the ticket !!! I turned off Automixture Used the throttle as Fuzzy Describes and all is well on the home front. I great big Thanks to all of you for your Help.

In a c172 we normally taxi at 900-1200 rpm
