You might need to check on your USB power settings. Make sure they’re off. The problem is, if your PC has some power-saving measures enabled, it will turn off and disconnect USB devices that are idle for too long. So when the USB device is disconnected, and you do something with it, it will try to reconnect again.

The thing about MSFS is that, once it tries to detect a hardware trying to connect to the sim it will freeze and crash to desktop. So as long as your PC is continuously connecting to the hardware, CTDs could be avoided.

I never remove or attach any peripherals when the sim is turned on. And no power saving option is turned on

The thing is, you don’t need remove or attach any peripherals… Windows sometimes does it for you on the software level as a power saving option.

The power saving option isn’t a general option, it’s actually a detailed feature called USB Power Saving that’s contained inside your power profile Even a “Balanced” power profile sometimes have the USB power saving option turned on, without you even knowing or realised it. But if you already made sure your Windows power profile is set to High Performance or Ultimate Performance power profile, then I guess it should be fine.

Before it crashes to desktop, did windows made a “ding” sound like you plugging a new USB drive or other peripheral? Even if you’re not doing any of it.

i wonder is a powered usb-hub would help there?

Hello. I have (and had hopefully) a similar problem.

I have the TCA Airbus full kit and when I use the hat to change the pilot view, occurs a CTD.

It’s related to the Nvidia drivers apparently (from my researchs because it’s related to the view for me). I uninstalled the driver with DDU, installer the 457.30 driver (people with a 2080 like me said that was the best) and now I am trying to test it because the MSFS cloud is not accessible…

Maybe try that.

Regards.

Alex.

Power saving mode is set to high performance. The sim just freezes and the audio keeps on playing, I have to end it using the task manager. And Yes I guess it usually happens with the hat button on the sidestick and the latest 2-3 nvidia drivers might also be the reason as in the november driver it worked fine

I would suggest going into Device Manager, expand “Universal Serial Bus Controllers” and any other USB related ones.

Go through each, right click and select “Properties” then select the “Power Management” tab. Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”.

Simply setting “high perfmance” does not always set this.

Once you have set it, reboot your PC and make sure it doesn’t get turned back on (some monitoring software can turn it back on).

Once confirmed off try again.

If you still get CTD you may need an externally powered USB hub (the device may be draining too much power along with other USB devices).

I’m happy that finally somebody raised this issue. I spent hours on the FBW discord explaining how the TCA quadrand was giving issue but the told me the could not reproduce. Every time I shut the engines down using the TCA I get my frames cut in half and GPU usage drops from 60 to 30%. This only happens using the TCA quadrant. I also get a lot of CTD at rotation ( if I use other stick it does not happen )

A cheap attempt to solve is get a powered USB hub and remove the complexity of what might be happening on your PC’s individual USB ports. The powered hub will force the USB connectivity to remain up. This eliminates one of the potential culprits.

will try and update u

still getting CTD after trying this

I don’t think this is a USB power issue as I am experiencing this issue since sim update 7. Before that everything worked fine

Have you tried to use the sim without any community addons?

My community folder is empty. I removed all add-ons

Just to try and rule out USB power, what if you unplug everything other than the stick mouse and keyboard and try a flight.

I used my xbox controller only today and didnt get a CTD. I few for about 3 hours.
