Hi all a user in discord just reported thunderstorms were back working in the sim around 1030, and yes i checked the same icoa with live wx and can confirm thunder and lightning is now working so what ever server fix got updated has repaired it thanks Asobo
Small update this evening
so I just picked and random spot from https://www.lightningmaps.org and yes the lighting was there, and it was showing on the world map page again
Waitā¦ How long has lightning not been working? I said on an Active Sky review that I liked that I was able to see lightning in Active Sky since they didnāt appear for me in MSFS, and someone replied to my post that I was an idiot, that I had no idea what I was talking about and obviously didnāt know how to use the sim. So I sheepishly apologized, and thought I really was doing something wrong. You mean lightning HASNāT been working??? I thought maybe conditions for lightning were just rarer than I thoughtā¦
Iāve flown many times with Live weather enabled & encountered thunderstorms [Edit: & Lightning]. However, all of those flights were outside of the United States. Iād speculate that it is not the game code at fault pe se, but a problem with the US weather data. Either the data does not include thunderstorm activity at all, or if it does, it is not being injected into the gameās weather subsystem correctly.
If folks are seeing lighting specifically in the USA, that would be different, new and good to hear.
I have encountered thunder clouds. The clouds light up. But no lightning has come out of them at all, for quite a while for me. That was why I was thrilled Active Sky gave me lightning back again. But if it has been fixed with SU15, then that is good.
Really? Iāve never seen any ever. And Iāve tried many a time to find thunderstorms at places there should be thunderstorms. Both in and out of the US.
Like you, I joined MSFS 2020 on Xbox shortly after launch in ā21.
I remember thunder and lightning that winter (and incredible airframe icing. Man I did some cRaZy flights over the Sierra Nevada in planes that had no anti/de-icing equipment.), but never saw it again other than via pre-set weather selections.
Yep, can confirm it too.Was doing a flight from Phuket to Manchester and right over the Indian Ocean Iāve started to see this thunderstorm below me and the lightning was amazing. Also I can see that the METAR matches the real world one which is amazing
Yeah, I remember lightning when SU5 and XBox released. Then I think like SU7 or SU8, I havenāt seen lightning since. Just clouds lighting up sometimes, but no lightning ever coming out. I guess this weekend I can try out my new VR headset and try and find some lightning. Would love to see what that looks like in 3D.
Iāve been seeing it a bunch of times and flew in a storm last month or so.
Had a couple of super close ones just before the recording. So it was working before the SU15.
Yep, looks like OP has false-positive results. I went in and tried too, KDFW - and had some rain and same old same oldā¦Wonder if they were using a PRESET and not live weather?
We need to just get over it, weather in MSFS2020 will NEVER be fixed, and I highly doubt they will do much different in MSFS2024. This is a VFR sim, Asobo do not want to āscareā away the x-box and pc casual fliers, and realistic weather would do that. This is one of the main reasons we lost the awesome live weather depictions we used to have pre-SU7or SU5.
That is a ridiculous supposition, that it is broken because of XBox, that it would scare them. I started on XBox before transitioning to a PC in 9 months. There are others in this thread who started on XBox and are now on PC. So my experiences while it was working was on XBox. People need to stop blaming every single broken thing in the sim as an āadjustment to make things dumber for XBox usersā. It does nothing for the sim, and it does nothing for the community.
