Considering the resolution of the resin printer is so much higher (.0344mm square pixel), I decided to make a couple of changes to the radio faceplate. Then I got carried away…
Then I got a little more carried away.
The 6k printer is plenty good enough. There is an issue with the grid-to-UV light issue that was causing some visual anomalies. There was a 1" grid pattern in the faceplate. I read up on the issue. seems like it has to do with the the way the light is bent. I performed a couple of mods to correct it. Much better ow, but Anycubic has a replacement grid that I’ve ordered. I’ll install that and see how it does. I read that with the new grid and a slight mod that those grid lines disappear from the prints.
I tried a couple of prints using supports. The bottom of the print then wasn’t flat, but it needs to be flat. So I drew up the buttons in F360 with an integrated support plate. I added an indent around each button so it would snap right off after running a scalpel blade down the seam. Then I went a little crazy and sized all the buttons and lettering to the printer’s 34.4 micron voxels. I’ve printed the faceplate a couple of times for sizing and such. Going to wait till the new grid is installed before I print it again.
Here’s a pic of the buttons. I used @StarThe2nd1589 silicone idea as the paint was just too messy and hard to work with.
Can’t wait to put this together and get started on the next radio.
Those look great, silicone is messy to work with also as I’m sure you’ve found out lol but they all look really good
