There I was, happily flying my beloved C152 over Japan, using the elevated spacebar view so I could see all goodies in front of me. Nice! Now lets sit a bit lower again. I reach for the spacebar, click it… CTD!!! Turns out I didn’t reach precise enough and touched the V-key with my nail… Bummer.
So here is my tip of the day: delete the V-key assignment! No more CTD’s! (I never use that map anyway since I’m using LNM.)
Or open it at the start of your flight, and leave it open, which is what I do. It minimises away as a tiny pop up that doesn’t get in the way of anything, and you can move it to another monitor as well, if you wish.
I use it, and LNM, but the built in map does a better job of showing you runway details at maximum zoom.
Just pointing out that its likely the existence of the map, not the key used to launch it, that is the problem. But as Asobo themselves point out, if you launch the map near the beginning of your flight, you will have no issue.
There is some indeterminate time after this where it will cause the crash. For me this was after I had landed at my destination, and opened it to check on the taxi way layout…instant crash. And I had been opening and closing the map a few times during the flight as well.
Unfortunately their fix does not work. I’ve tried multiple times today immediately loading the VFR map as soon as I start my flight, then closing it, and re-opening it multiple times throughout the flight. Eventually the VFR map instantly causes my sim to crash (unless I’m doing this wrong).
I’m sure it’ll be fixed soon, just a little frustrating.
Luckily no.
I use the map every flight, never had a problem, either before or after the patches.
Therefore, I thought there might be a specific key to the source of the problem.
Yeah, I noticed that. My guess is that it remains open if you had it open on your last flight? This may have always been the case, but I never left the VFR map open before, because I didn’t have to.
You are lucky, and so was I for a while. I too was wondering what all the fuss was about. Then, yesterday, I was half way through a flight and hit the V key and BOOM. Game over!
I’ve been using two VFR 3rd party maps since the Simconnect bug was fixed.
(VFRMap and SimToolkitPro)
Never liked the cartoon version included in FS2020, but I’m sure it will evolve.
