TLOD advantage: 5800X3D >> 7800X3D

Does making the small jump from my 5800X3D to a 7800X3D open up some ability to push TLOD higher?

Reverb G2, 4080 DLSS & supersampling. MR locked at 30. Well dialed in and pretty happy, but obsessing on TLOD CPU impact.

Hello
How is the TLOD now…?
It has high CPU consumption.
I have everything on ultra with less equipment and V-Sync locked at 30fps and it runs very smoothly.
Do you have images you can show?

London as a TLOD stress test example: If I approach approx 200 level, turning head causes drops below 30 frames. CPU I understand is directly impacted by TLOD, however I have never attempted to quantify usage other than using the OXR overlay frame times to monitor CPU vs GPU limiting factor.

I’m happy, and don’t think anything is wrong, however am curious to hear if anyone in VR may have changed to the from the AM4 X3D to AM5 X3D and seen a jump in TLOD headroom.

I can’t help myself with this. But if it’s any consolation to me at ORBX’s EGLC I also watch the slides go by slowly.

you can see some optimization tips.

Thanks for the link. Have not seen that utility before. Very cool. Ran a couple of the scripts. Bookmarked and will use again. I already run MSFS.exe in High Priority and on Core Perf 0.

Still curious if anyone has made the 5800X3D >> 7800X3D upgrade and has maybe noticed some TLOD headroom open up using their headset.

I’m on Crystal with 7800x3D and 4090. I have TLOD 305 with huge supersampled resolution 4600 x xxxx. DLSS Quality, most settings Ultra, clouds High.
FPS: 30-48 depending on the scenery. Pretty fluid.

Wow, that sounds promising. 305 would be amazing. That’s a significant jump from where I’m at with the 5800X3D in photogrammetry areas. I’ve bounced around between 4000-4200 x xxxx with the 4080.

I fly mostly GA planes, like A2A Comanche, not as complex as PMDG or similar airliners. Your results may differ, many factors here.

I didn’t mess around with TLOD before or after the upgrade but I switched from a 5800X3D to the 7800X3D a couple of weeks back. What I found when I initially went from 5900X to the 5800X3D was a noticeable uptick in fps but smoothness seemed to suffer a little.
The jump to 7800X3D has made a very noticeable jump in smoothness for me - I’m just not seeing any stuttering at all when approaching custom airports like PD Edinburgh and Glasgow. With the 5800X3D, I would usually see some small stutters as these airports loaded in. The jump in performance from the 5800X3D to the 7800X3D was bigger than I expected and I’m glad I made the switch.

Are you still finding this to be the case? I currrntly have a 5800c3d with a 3080 and have been thinking about either upgrading the GPU only or going with a new AM5 build with the 7800x3d
