TnT - SU5 Update - my PC-VR FPS performance boost analysis

Hey VR pilots,

posting just like that for now, all crucial details in the picture.
Measured with care in the last 3 hours after 5+ hours of updating.

What cannot be reproduced in my benchmark is the new, brilliant, sturdy smoothness, like watching a movie - completely new engine approach to smoothness, even at lower fps. 747 in JFK is finally such a fun!

Summed up: I love the update!

I hope the analysis below to provide an objective and representative comparison for similar PC configs.

Cheers,
Thomas

Nice post good to see similar results to what I am getting you have been quick off the mark with that.
SU4 2 days ago vs SU5 just now, same scenario, this is with a Rift S, 9700k, 2080, hell of a boost.

Did you guys set your VR render scale back to what it was prior to the patch to ensure an apples to apples comparison?

The VR render scale was set to 80% in the update.

yes absolutely, in my case it’s both 100% render scale.
I checked all settings and also noticed everything was same as before except for renderscale turned down to 80% in VR. Made sure to measure with 100% of course.

In addition to the render scale needing adjustment back to 100%, there is also the fact that the terrain and object LOD scales are apparently not the same anymore: if you had 100 before for that setting, you’d actually need to set it at 200 now to get the same LODs (see the other thread about that), otherwise you’re effectively measuring the fps boost of having a LOD decrease - something to consider

I think you’d need 300. I have it on 200 and the game doesn’t look nearly as good.

I only see that the performance boost is coming from overall lower quality settings. Like what was middle quality before is the new ultra.

Agreed. I was running mostly high settings in SU4 and now all ultra with about 10% more FPS with SU5 but it looks blurrier and less detail than I had with SU4.
