To go VR or not, that is the question

As someone who has used VR for years with XPlane and MSFS - here is some advice:
If you don’t have a top-tier system and you really want VR to work for you - stick with it and don’t expect overnight miracles. When I first started in VR (this was in XPlane days), I had a 1080ti and… I honestly forget the CPU… i7 something. It took me about a month… that’s right - a month of research, experimenting, tweaking, swearing, tweaking more… until I finally got it right. And I never looked back.

Fast forward to MSFS - my old rig was similar to OP… maybe a little less powerful - i9-9900k and a 3080ti. I overclocked the CPU to run cool all day at 5.0 GHz. Spent about two weeks tweaking, experimenting… you get the picture… until it was smooth and amazing.

So, I guess the message here is - VR can be amazing. Even with lesser systems. It just takes a lot of hard work and dedication if you want to get it running smooth. And yes, there are compromises. Don’t expect to run with sliders full right and native resolution if you have a 3080ti… It just isn’t going to happen. But if you can accept compromises in visuals, then you can make it work. Just takes time.

Now… I saved up for about three years and finally treated myself to a new build - i9-14900k and a 4090… and things are even more amazing in VR now obviously
