Welcome to the 6th flight in Gunpilot’s new SHORT series of Challenging flights, carrying on from the past over 4 years of events (200 flights) that ran for 3 hrs week in, week out.
Flight Details:
In the scorched highlands of central Mexico, a tight-knit squad of Warthog jockeys—call signs like “Rooster,” “Fang,” and “Grandma”—roared off on a mission that could only be described as “To Hell and Back.” These are no ordinary flyboys; these are adrenaline-fed maniacs stuffing their stubby, snorting A-10 Warthogs into postage-stamp dirt strips meant for bush planes and crop dusters. The terrain? Unforgiving. The runways? A joke. Surrounded by jagged peaks, vultures on final, and cactus-lined drop-offs, the approach is less “textbook” and more “hold-my-beer-and-watch-this.” As the jets come in hot, the pilots practically sit on the speed brakes, wrestling their metal beasts into submission, engines howling like banshees while the altimeter needle spins like it’s panicking too.
On short final, it’s not just the dust that makes things hazy—it’s the eucalyptus and mesquite trees reaching out like leafy grim reapers, daring any Warthog to come too low. One bad call and you’re woodchipped across a ravine. But these pilots? They dance through death with a smirk. Landing rollouts are more controlled crashes than graceful touchdowns, with tires skidding, flaps flared, and brake pads begging for mercy. There’s always a shout in the headset—“TREE! TREE!”—and some poor sap stomping pedals like he’s churning butter just to keep it straight. Pull up too late and you’re having tacos in someone’s backyard. But somehow, miraculously, they nearly always stick it. Dust settles, engines wind down, and the Warthogs sit there looking like they just punched the Earth and won.
The Aircraft for this event is the Thunderbolt (Warthog)
*Again, a packaged up WEATHER file has been developed and included along with the flight plan, negating any need for anyone to dial in weather settings, as well as ensuring that all pilots are experiencing exactly the same weather conditions. The Weather Preset file is located in #gunpilots-events (click this link Discord) to be taken there. Load this file directly into the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 directory on your PC in the PRESETS folder which is located within the WEATHER folder in the aforementioned MSFS2024 directory .
