To those stricken with the live weather only on first flight bug - are you still affected after SU4?

Before the flurry of replies that weather isn’t accurate, this isn’t what this thread is about. If you have comments about that, there are other threads better suited for that conversation. Let’s try to keep this thread on topic.

With that said…

The question in the topic is clear. A subset of us were experiencing this bug where Live Weather would only work on the first flight. The only way to get it working again was to restart the sim or use the janky workaround that had its own side effects.

I started experiencing this issue during the last update that came last November. Since then, it sporadically would give me live weather on second flight, but the vast majority of the time, it simply didn’t work.

The SU3 hotfix (where they fixed some server communication issues according to patch notes) seemed to improve the situation for me. At that point, it seemed to be about a 50-50 thing whether I’d get live weather on second flight.

With SU4 and the optimizing of weather data listed in the patch notes, this issue seems to have cleared up for me. With one exception in the last 2 weeks, I’ve had live weather working on every single flight without failure. Again, accuracy of said weather is questionable, but that’s another topic of discussion.

I’m interested in hearing your experience with this and if you’re still experiencing the bug after SU4.

Bug has stopped completely for me (hopefully stays that way). Accuracy in my area has also been substantially improved. Very happy with the state of the live weather currently.

Had th e same bug and now it’s all good
Didn’t experienced it again since SU4.

Nope live weather is finally good and no 2nd flight bug!

I had the bug and it is gone since SU4. Which is interesting, given that it was never acknowledged to exist (as far as I know). Since the bug is gone, I no longer have to start with clear skies, which means my destination runway is chosen correctly because it uses the current winds in the sim. I am very pleased with that - no more 20 knot tailwinds on landing.

My habit has become to do a flight, reboot the sim for the next flight.

I will give it a try next time, back to back.

I’m good. I do have the issue where selecting an airport on the map will give me “dashes” for wind and direction, but loading the flight seems to be accurate. Fingers crossed this is the end.

That’s why I think that this was a “fix” that was a byproduct of them optimizing the weather server code vs them actually purposely fixing it.

Same here. Haven’t seen the issue after SU4.
I have always speculated that it had to do with server connection failures.

It’s been good after SU4, so fingers crossed.

Weather has been quite accurate lately.

Mostly disappeared. However I did a second flight last night (realtime, afternoon in Alaska) from Sitka to Juneau and it was raining the whole flight. Taking off in Sitka at 12C the landscape was normal and green, arriving at Juneau it was still 12C, rain, but everything was covered with snow.

So I don‘t know if it come from this „second flight bug“. The last time there was snow on a group flight in Idaho but it cleared to the real 20ish Centigrades and removed the snow after a minute or so. It was a „second flight“ too.

I had all but given up on live weather, but like you, have experienced a consistent fix so far. I read in the release notes, tried it out, and was very pleased.

No issues here, and it seems like the ATC runway assignments & windsocks are correct now too.

That’s been pretty hit or miss for me. I’m still seeing things like a wind reading of 270, but I’m being assigned 09 for landing while AI / Live traffic is being told to use 27. Also seeing windsocks pointing the opposite direction from what actual wind direction is showing on my GNS530 map. Not always, but it’s definitely happening with fair regularity.

I faced the same problem and now it seems that it is solved. Although sometimes I still restart the game mostly out of habit.

I checked in with the developers on this. It was, indeed, fixed in Sim Update 4! Not sure why it wasn’t in the release notes, but I will be marking the corresponding bugs in Bugs & Issues resolved.

Please don’t get me wrong, as I’m glad they fixed this finally as it was plaguing a lot of people. I’m just utterly surprised that if it was intentionally fixed that there was zero mention of it in the patch notes.

I know they don’t mention everything they fix, but it seems like this was a pretty major thing that had been affecting some folks since launch. Seems like it would have been a pretty big deal to put in the notes and announce it was fixed. There are people totally unaware and still restarting the sim or still using the workaround even though it’s no longer required.

Yep, I totally get it, but I don’t have an answer for you. I’m just the messenger!
Anyone who commented on the bug reports is going to get a notification when I close the topics.

Good to know because until I read this post I’ve still been using the clear weather fix to avoid missing weather.

For those having reverse windsock problems, it may be an addon airport and some of those use reverse windsocks to correct the original problem. Now they need to be updated for correspond to the fix in SU4.

Yes, at some point, I intend to go through the addon airports in my Community folder and message the creators who reversed their windsocks to fix them.
