I couldn’t find the Japan/Tokyo discussion thread, if there is one even… Not sure, so posting here.
The photogrammetry in Tokyo has gotten rather poor as of late. There’s patches or towns and buildings loading right in front of me as I’m flying around the main Tokyo skyline after taking off from Haneda International, I see all the famous buildings popping in and out of view only a few hundred metres away.
It used to be immaculate.
What’s going on?
Series X, rolling cache set to 16gb. Already cleared before and after latest UK update. No scenery or airport add-ons.
How could it have changed? Has WU1 received any updates recently? I’m not sure how you would even check that as they never seem to populate their version information.
All I’m saying is double check your LOD display settings, as that impacts pop-in. If you’re going to be an ■■■ and say “did you read the post” you won’t get help, but here…this may help: Scenery Popping In - #5 by Cliffyboy1962
They are on XBox, which is what I think they were driving at i.e. you can’t adjust the LOD.
Not being a you know what, but you missed the pertinent point. To be fair they could have just explained what I did, which would have likely avoided your retort entirely.
The only thing g I can think of, since the source data has likely not changed, is that it either hasn’t finished loading, or the sim on console is artificially lowering the LOD dynamically to save memory.
The addons loaded, and plane being flown may have an effect. It would informative to revisit in a very simple plane with no glass cockpit, such as the default Cub, to see if the PG looks better.
Gotta love when our PC members come to ‘help’ out on Xbox questions. Imagine going into the “Four years in and pretty much zero improvements to clouds” thread and saying “deal with it.” Those folks would eat you alive.
But yes speeddemon (OP) it’s the LOD in system update 15. While Vegas CU, DC CU, and now UK/Scotland WU look good when you’re right over top everything else struggles to render.
As you know many of us are moving from Xbox to PC. I think you have a thread on the topic as well, these threads are becoming more and more popular. I sure hope MS/Asobo is taking notice that all of their Xbox members are being forced into purchasing PCs, because of the “updates” they’ve provided. It’s truly pathetic. Why say something is Series X compatible when it’s most obviously a super watered down version now? When it used to not be.
I should t have to “evolve” because they implemented bad memory optimizations. That’s just crazy you all think this is ok. That’s like if I told you, you have to go get the new 4090 because they dropped SU16, now YOU have to evolve.
Tell the Xbox members it’s all gonna work fine. Then take it all away from us for “performance reasons.” Asobo should be more transparent. Xbox isn’t the same as it used to be. SU7-SU14 was fine, almost three years without major issues like this. Now 6 months to release the new sim they completely downgrad the old sim. Odd timing. But what do you know you’re not even on an Xbox?
What I know is the sim has evolved since 2019. New features have been added, a ton of new content has been added. The PC platform has evolved 5 CPU generations since then, and the XBox hasn’t improved at all.
Would you expect to play MSFS on the same PC you may have played FSX on, for example. Software evolves, and has new hardware requirements. 2024 is an attempt to address this by trying squeeze more out of the same hardware.
On the Xbox the only things that have really evolved is the amount of memory hogging airport addons and badly optimised aircraft’s, barring a few, that have been added to market place.
In terms of the sim it’s self nothing much has been added to it. It’s not really evolved. The weather has improved a little, ATC is still as bad as always was, but the look of the sim is still very much the same with the exception of more PG areas being added. In fact the sim has slowly declined in visual quality as times gone on especially with the significantly reduced LOD that’s instigated by the memory management system introduced in the last update which has ruined the sim. This reduction of visual quality has slowly been stripped away because of market place thus allowing more people to spend money downloading addons that increases the sims memory. Think about it, before market place become filled with Xbox addons the sim was the best it had ever been.
Completely on point and makes sense. It used to look so SO good.
Now I see patches of land, textures and photogrammetry loading in and out around the plane only a few miles out. Visibility and LOD is not looking good. Muddy ground textures and blurry runway signage/markings is utterly unacceptable. They have ruined things to a noticeable degree.
Hope this stuff finally gets addressed in the next updates. Thank goodness I haven’t invested in any marketplace add-ons and neither plan to until Asobo works on making the sim look and perform as best as it possibly can on the Series X.
