Tonights Q&A small mention of VR

Quick snapshot of what was said, the link for the Replay of the Stream will be posted later (it’s towards the very end of the Q&A)

  • . Jorg said they have stuff planned for VR but other stuff got in the way recently
  • . Martial said there’s a lot of fixes coming for SU8 (Beta starts after WU7 release so we’ll no doubt get the changelog then)
  • . Jorg said he wants to make VR a big thing for the next Q&A so hoping we get some questions in
  • . They have a team of 6 (i think) working on VR
  • . Jorg ended saying there’s something really cool he wants to work on for 2022/23.

That was practically it, both Jorg & Martial sit on the VR Dev Team (or something) so they want to make it good…just gonna need to be patient!

Just to add earlier in the stream Seb said DLSS for the DX12 branch is working, may come in an update in the summer or later in the year, hopefully it’ll work with VR.

2023 will probably be too late for some of us. At least for some basic problems. The clock is ticking.
Easter is near …

Ok ,we will see

One must be blind, not seeing that VR is going to change gaming in the coming years.
No gamer will buy flat monitors anymore, with improving resolution and FOV. Gaming companies that don’t start adapting now, will lose market share.
It’s the elephant from miles away.

DLSS is a Nvidia specific technology, where would that leave XBOX users and AMD users. ? I would like this question put to the dev team.

VR isn’t for everyone, just putting on the headset gives me motion sickness. Don’t use absolutes.

There are some very exciting VR improvements being developed , applicable to MSFS VR, by an independent 3rd part Dev team, during the last few months

The “fingers crossed” referred to MS & Asobo finding a way to work with that 3rd party Developer, to bring these exciting new improvement to MSFS.

Sorry to hear. But still, most people don’t get sick. I guess there will always be people sticking to monitors for what ever reason.
I hope your motion sickness will diminish once the image quality and frame rates go up.
I saw a video the other day about someone trying out a state of the art headset at the NES2022 (flying a fighter jet!). Normally she would get instant motion sickness, but not this time because of the image quality

But what exactly are these mysterious improvements? You have any idea what they might be referring to?

LOL they have been saying that about vr since the late 1980’s … Still quite not there yet ;p

VR has come on in leaps and bounds over the last couple of years.
I thought it a bit of a fad when it first came out, in the same way that 3D was. It is nice to be proven wrong now though, the likes of Elite Dangerous and MSFS are quite difficult to enjoy flat screen once you have experienced them in VR.

I agree, VR is the future of gaming. However, the price point and hardware required to run VR usually puts a lot of people off. As most pancake players that have tried VR might say “VR is cool, but the technology isn’t there yet” and it’s sorta true. VR is not in the mainstream no matter how hard we believe it to be, it’s still very niche in nature. With headsets like the Quest at relatively reasonable price points, we can introduce people into VR without making them go full send into the experience, which is where i generally rate Oculus headsets anyway.

You could say the same about peripherals. They are in no way a must have, but they do enhance the enjoyment and experience in much the same way as VR does and the costs can certainly add up if you want to move away from using a cheap HOTAS.

absolutely. Anyone interested in a “my first joystick” i almost always recommend a Logitech 3D Extreme Pro (for being as biased against logitech as i am) just to get peoples feet wet. It’s up to them if they want to take the next step. I mean i get the turn off where “you can’t see any of the buttons or keys” argument when it comes to VR + hardware. I always say, you’ll find something that works for you

Just watched the stream and the VR response was ATROCIOUS!!!

Seriously, the best response was “I don’t have any VR related information in front of me, so I cannot comment on anything VR related at all. We’ll get back to you in a month.”
That is coming from the Executive Producer, no less.

In the meantime, we’ll blow some smoke about some killer feature that is a 2023 item.
REALLY? Its January 2022.

Microsoft - give us full multicrew with VR controller implementations like in DCS

I’m not so sure it did, I don’t recall Jorg saying anything about a 3rd party dev or working with them, otherwise I would’ve included it in the first post. I’ll have to listen again but I think you’re jumping to something there.

Yes that wasn’t very well prepared but at least Martial did say the list of VR fixes for SU8 was long, if the Q&A had not of been extended we wouldn’t of got anything on VR at all so at least we got something.

Unfortunately when it comes to Devs saying “yeah we’ll get to that” I’ve learnt to take those words with a grain of salt, I’ve been burnt by other Devs saying the same words on the same subject years later and my patience ran out…I hope that doesn’t happen here with VR!

I hope the beta - including the VR fixes - will me made available to Steam installations, too. I just wrote a kind plea to Zendesk to this effect.
