Too many complainers, I'm happy

Hi everyone

It’s sad to hear that so many people are disappointed with the new sim. Myself, I am extremely happy with it. Installation was straight forward, with only one hiccup when the sim would not install onto a non system drive, but that was sorted quickly.

After reading a lot of posts here I thought I had to say something in support of the developers. There has been an amazing amount of work and effort put in MSFS 2020.
For an initial release it is really good.
No it’s not perfect, and has some bugs, but it is entirely usable. What piece of software is completely bug free on release.
I’ve flown it for multiple hours at a time without issue, and have been very impressed. To those who say it’s not a sim, well either was FS2004, FSX, P3D. They are all a base product that you have to add on to, and that is the same here.
What we do have is an incredible base that will evolve over time and get better and better.
From what I have seen it works best as a “low and slow” sim, flying in the FL the graphics don’t look great. That is on my PC at least, which could only be described as mid range.

People will always be quick to complain, but I reckon there is a silent majority who are so impressed that they are too busy simming to post on here.

So tops marks to everyone who was involved in bringing MSFS 2020 to market. I look forward to following the evolution of this great sim.

Cheers
Niall

I guess some just forget what FSX was like in its default state. This has absolutely blown my mind.

Same here. Once I got my preferences set up on my controller, it has been smooth flying

I have to agree. Are there some issues? Yes but they will be worked out in time. MSFS 2020 has personally far exceeded my expectations. The years of waiting were well worth it and this is one hell of base to build upon. My hats off to the development team and all the beta and alpha testers. Thank you!

Regards,

Bob

I pretty much agree with this. In FSX/P3D, I flew to the Falkland Islands once. Never went back because it looked like garbage. I flew there today in MS2020 and now I don’t want to leave! The default airports are incredible!

I think a lot of people have one big complaint and then say “Asking for a refund” or “Horrible game” because they can’t download properly…which is awful. They brought the game out too early which I’m not mad at, I get to play it earlier! Although they have a lot of buzz and people playing it like Dr. Disrespect and first impressions are everything. The game look visually stunning especially in 3D cities. but there are a ton of bugs and stuff that isnt working yet. To me its all fine and it will come, im just glad its out. Been waiting for sooooo long for this. The potential is amazing, just hope they listen to the community and update accordingly which they have been so far!

Every hyped game has a baggage of “the sky is falling” moaners upon release, you can bet your money on it. As for myself, I think it’s a great start, maybe released a little early, but with Covid restrictions I’m glad it’s out as I’m inside on the computer every day.

What really gets me excited though is the announcement by 3rd party PMDG’s study planes Admin of what the new sim means for them…they finally have a top of the line modern sim engine to work on that they can make do amazing things and that includes the flight physics.

For those who know nothing and think this is a flop, go and read what rsrandazzo has to say on the PMDG forums.
BTW they are hoping for a completely reworked study plane of their fabulous 737 to be ready early in Q1 2021.

I’m EXTREMELY happy. Been flying Flight sim since before Microsoft. This sim is a dream. Yes, there are quirks…but it will get sorted.

I thought this sim was going to be amazing, next gen stuff. Even with expectations like that, it’s exceeded what I expected. I’m blown away. I expect to be even more so when VR is ready for Oculus.

FSX worked.

The airplane that sold me on DCS was the F-14. The airplane that sold me on MSFS was the C-152. I’m looking forward to airliners being in a playable state, but the sim really shines with it’s GA aircraft selection right now.

I’m currently on a sim flight from Houston to Miami as I’m reading your post. All good except some of those bugs as expected but all good so far.

Are you trying to say this doesn’t work? In what way?

I’ve had no problems at all with it.

so i am admitedly a little spoilt with 1GB Fibre to the house, so i dont have the issues of downloading, but the sim itself is fantastic, and I am one of the very happy ones

You said that we forget what FSX was like in default state. I Got FSX on DVD and didn’t have any problems with instalation or controls or game crashing so please tell me what was wrong with FSX?

I agree, I remember the first ever flight sim graphics on my commodore 16/64 and have seen flight sims evolve massively over time. A lot of extremely talented developers have brought us fantastic sims and addons over the years and in my opinion Microsoft and Asobo Studios have done a sterling job with Microsoft Flight Simulator and have just future proofed this hobby for us. I am enjoying learning the nuances of this new sim and I’m glad that this community forum exists because there are some very handy guides which people have kindly uploaded

I had a breathtaking flight yesterday in Northern Norway against the midnight sun. 10/10
Today on the same route the game decided to switch off my radio and transponder after 25 minutes of flying. And on final approach the engine sound became distorted and then stopped just before the game froze. End of.
The Savage Cub is a pleasure to fly (I use Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS and pedals) however switching on the main battery makes the ignition switch go berserk. The 12V switch in the cockpit says “inop”.
Shifting and zooming the map is affecting the engine sound.
The ramps of the smaller airfields are not level but follow the terrain as do the taxiways, some of which have extraordinary gradients.
Airport service vehicles seem to be the only moving things on most airfields - I haven´t been able to spot a single flying or taxiing plane in over 5 hrs - and are driven by a reckless and maniac AI so I have a very bad feeling when I see one. I almost got t-boned by a fuel bowser. After slamming down my brake pedals - not recommended for taildraggers - to avoid the collision I got a helpful advice from Ground Control to hold.
Lakes in mountainous areas are sitting on a conical some 100ft high base making them look like water filled dormant volcanoes.
From 2000ft AGL the cities look very nice, almost photorealistic, going down to below 500ft everything starts to look like a Sovjet Gulag.
The weather and clouds look like the “real” thing and contribute to the immersion (I have over 400 hrs RL single and twin VFR and IFR).
I use the rcommended settings by NVIDIA for my graphics card GeForce GTX1080 which are pretty conservative.
Will I stay with this Sim? Of course, but I hope they will fix all those issues and missing details.

I agree with you, OP, and all of the positive posts on this forum. I have next to nothing negative to say because I’m having a blast with this sim! And the best part - it’s just going to get better and better.

I just ignore them. Not that I don’t understand their frustration, but I think they are comparing a new sim a polished one that’s been out for some time. Or they are new to flight sims and expect something totally diffrent.
