This was also a problem in fs2020, so its no new issue. I remember the issue was less pronounced in the first release of fs2024 but after su2,su3 it got worse. I notice it easier in VR then 2D, but its there in 2D also.
No AI, or injected traffic of any kind. I never use it. Strictly my plane, the Black Square Caravan without cargo pod, and an incoming BN2 Islander by Blackbox Simulations.
For those that can demonstrate this, I would ask you to do so with no Community addons of any kind.
Some keywords I see popping up every now and again, are āVRā, AIG, and FSLTL.
I also see the words āglobal issueā or āit affects every planeā, and that is clearly not the case as I donāt see this, so those who do must be using something I am not.
As Iāve said many times Iāve never see this issue for some reason. It could well be that I am not using the planes that others use all the time, which would mean I never see it, and they think its all planes.
The list above is useful. I will repeat my test from earlier, spawning at TNCM, in something from that list that I have. Iāve got the new 2024 Kodiak now, but have removed the old one, which Iām guessing is what that one refers to.
I also have the new 2024 BKSQ Bonanza, and Duke, so I can test all three of those, and will upload a video shortly. I will also make sure the Bonanza, and Duke are updating. I can see one at least would upgrade me from 0.1.1 to 0.1.1b so Iāll get those done first.
It affects every AI plane, worse in VR. Is that sufficiently definive now?
Right, so thatās why I donāt see it then as I never use AI planes, and I donāt use VR. I only use Live traffic, and no traffic injection of any kind.
If that is 100% accurate then I think the thread title should be updated so itās a little less ambiguous.
Iāve got the BKSQ Baron, Bonanza, Turbine & Piston Dukes all updated to their latest versions. Iāll run some quick tests on those.
The question then become, why is an AI representation of one of those planes affected, and why is your own, or maybe a Live traffic version of them not affected?
The newly released 2024 Kodiak from SWS is doing it, but you have to be pretty far away. Iāll shoot some footage now. You can see planes further away in the background not doing it though. This is my own plane, not live or multiplayer traffic.
There were a couple of what I assume static aircraft, that seemed to change from time to time, that shows this, but other than what I assume assuming was the Cessna 404, all were at sufficiently distant range that you could hardly see the plane at all at normal zoom levels.
The worst performing aircraft I spawned in was the Kodiak. Itās model started to break apart much closer that any of the others, but its wheels werenāt the first to go. The Black Square planes didnāt seem to fall apart at all, and all parts remained visible at extreme ranges.
There was another tail dragger to the right that had its gear missing in a couple of the tests, which I hope my mouse pointer highlighted in the recording, but again at quick some distance.
I will repeat this with AI only traffic to see if it gets worse then, as the shots I have seen are pretty close range, not at maximum zoom as I have shown in the video below.
But at the very least it demonstrates that different planes behave differently, and they donāt all reduce their LOD in the same way. The Kodiak, for example, loses its prop & spinner before the wheels go.
Do not use the zoom, but stay in the default zoom and pan away, its strange that all my planes seem to loose the front wheel at exact same distance. Wich graphic card are you using and resolution are you running in?
If you are panning you arenāt changing your distance from the target, so that sounds more like a caching issue.
Iām using an Nvidia 3090 FE @1080p.
No if you pan away you keep the rendering as it should be at a distance, if you zoom in the rendering will apply to the current zoom level. Anyway, im running 2k resolution. So maybe the rendering is different in 1080p, i dont know.
Hopefully I will have time this evening to switch from Live traffic to AI. Iāve never used it, all the way back to 2020, so it will be interesting to see the difference.
But my video demonstrated that there is no consistency in āBy Designā ⦠this IS a bug.
By Design canāt be ārandomā ⦠as in some object cull closer while other objects do not even when they consist of less screen space.
There is logic construct that could suggest āBy Designā.
Ok, so Asobo are just bailing out on the sound and wheel culling problems.
Iāve been coding software for some 40 years and I have in some cases tried to pass off something as āBy Designā when the real issues was that I didnāt want to put the effort in improving the āDesignā as I had a long list of other TODO tasks in my development work.
This is a shame, but it does question Asobo/Microsoftās commitment to this project if theyāre already at the stage of āBy Designā problem deferral.
If you watch the MSFS 2024 opening video, you can the same issue of AI aircraft wheels disappears surface (very briefly on screen for less than 1 second).
When I tried to replicate earlier in the week, with AI only traffic, no multiplayer, and no live traffic, I never saw any planes.
I tried multiple airports, and didnāt see any AI traffic. Iāve no idea how to force them to spawn.
Here is a classic example of to agressive LOD\Culling on the new Fokker 27
