I think one excellent tool that Xplane has and would be great for MSFS 2020 is the airport editor. This allows the community to improve the airports around the world. The changes are validated by a moderator and if is a good improvement the changes are added to the next release.
This really helps to maximize the use of the community to improve the thousand of small airports around the world. Nothing too complex but count with this community to support this.
There is an SDK, and I believe along that comes a scenery editor. Not sure how it works, but I highly recommend you give it a look if you are interested in modifying your flying experience. To download the SDK and its documentation, go to settings > Developer > turn developer mode on. Then on the bar that appears, one of the tabs (I think Help maybe) contains “install sdk.”
I think one can’t edit existing airports. You need to start from scratch. It would take a lot of time just to get basics done.
At least for Finland, taxiways names and stands (positions and types) seem to be pretty random. Fixing them is quite mandatory for Vatsim use for example.
Shame that you can’t alter the current ones, that worked really well in Xplane as allows you to make those small changes that make airports look better or reflect the reality. A single scenary repository which is managed but contributed by many has been one of the best ideas from Laminar Research.
Are they planning to in future sdk to allow for existing airport modifications? For example (here at TF Green) FS20 recognizes there is a building, but doesn’t recognize it as a cargo handling building (ie large double story building
. I can understand anachronistic items such as a new hanger popping up (which has happened within the last year or so here at TF Green) but the dev should at least allow us to clean up the airports that we are familiar with
