Kind of an inconvenient work around, but you could probably open the FLT file in notepad and edit the weather section by hand.

That is indeed super annoying. I managed to get live weather working this way
 thank you. It would still be nice to be able to open the weather tab in the toolbar and edit weather/time manually.

Pick that option up in the tool bar settings and turn it on , while you’re on the ground or in the air. Same place you would shut off the nav, etc. Sometimes I log on using real weather only to find out it raining when my flight loads, then I go up into toolbar right then and change it to my preference. Time included.

I cannot access the toolbar when loading a save flight? A feature? Yeah right
this is a complete joke. It is a bug of course, or a lack of quality, if you want.

Of course I want to be able to change everything via the toolbar after loading a flight. Aircraft, Weather, everything.

Every flight simulator I know has the menu available after loading a flight. It is such a basic standard behaviour that a normal person would expect!

For example I will save my flight after arrival and the next day I want to load it and adjust the weather or other things and then do my next flight.

Weird, I just saved a flight where I landed and stopped the engines in a field somewhere. And now the state was PREFLIGHT_PUSHBACK instead of FLIGHT_CRUISE. Still changed the Weather to restore the Toolbar.

Agreed. It is very irritating.

I’ve been saving some “kiosk” approach/landings of my own and it’s sad that I can’t go back and fine-tune the time/weather slightly, just to make the scene even more beautiful/challenging.

actually no. you can change the weather by opening your save file(MFS file) in appdata-MFS-yourfile in notepad. There you can change the weather and time. Find the section that says weather and inside that section there’s line that says ‘(your weather right now).wpr’. set this to ClearSky.wpr or Overcast.wpr or whatever weather theme you like. make sure to have your case right in the wpr file name

I unnderstand that the weather can be changed by using notepad. There are a number of parameters that can be changed besides the weather.

yep. have you found a fix for missing the toolbar when loading a saved flight. its very annoying cos you have to start a new flight all over again. i’ve been trying so hard. maybe only they can fix it

I think the original intent of saved flight files was to save flight information so when MSFS is exited and started later, loading the flight file is like “resume” keeping everything the same. That is, a temporary save only.

However the flight files often are being used to create a library of saved flights. I’ve had problems using older flight files caused by lack of forward compatibility between some updates.

I found this info in another post which might be helpful.

Changing weather in a FLT file.

  1. Make the following changes. Note: The WeatherPresetFile should already be there and does not need to be changed.
  2. [Weather]
  3. UseWeatherFile=True (from False)
  4. UseLiveWeather=True (from False)
  5. WeatherPresetFile=.\WeatherPresets\UnrealWeatherLive.WPR
  6. WeatherCanBeLive=True (from False)
  7. (Delete following lines)
  8. CloudmapPosOverride=False
  9. CloudmapInitialPosX=0
  10. CloudmapInitialPosY=0
  11. FixedClouds=False

(Change highlighted values to current time, assuming this is what you want)

[DateTimeSeason]

Season=Summer
Year=2021
Day=16
Hours=18
Minutes=2
Seconds=4.1667857170104980469
UseZuluTime=False

I really would want to be able to be able to save my game with my plane cold dark and load it back and have the tool bar and adjust the time. All this with the live weather. For now, nothing seem consistent in all the suggested tips here. It’s really a shame since I want to continue my world tour. Also, sometime I try to load a test save and the game simply ctd without any error code.

I really hope they will fix that. It’s a deal breaker for me and I have bought the deluxe version at launch and still not being able to enjoy the sim

Hi fellow simmers!

Maybe is a simple ask for support but I may be doing something wrong. I like using my flightSim as a fleet manager, this means that with the help of 3rd party tools like SimToolKitPro I create an instance of the plane, give its own registration and track its movement in real time. So, if I have my C208 reg LV-SAP parked with SABE the next day if I want to fly that plane I will try to load it in the same conditions as I left it. In any other sim I use a very simple feature called “Save flight”, this saves the state of the plane, fuel and parking position (if the plane is cool enough the switches and levers position, wear and tear are also saved). This would allow me to use the plane again but with the current time and weather. Anyhow, I want to do this simple thing with MFST Flight Sim but it does not work.

When I save a flight, it saves the position, fuel and state BUT also saves the date/time and weather
. And for some reason the sim does not allow me to change it to LIVE to reset those items


Am I doing something wrong? If you have experienced the same, did you find a workaround?

It is not you. It is a bug in MSFS. There is a work-around:

When you save, you save a .FLT file somewhere. Open it in a text editor and make the following change:

Replace the [Weather] section with:

[Weather]
UseLiveWeather=True
WeatherCanBeLive=True

It looks like MSFS is adding additional settings there which cause the weather button to dissapear (and even the complete toolbar).

I tried it with both live weather on and off. When you save a flight and load back in, you cannot change the weather or time. This makes my carefully planned Real-time world our impossible. Please fix it.

But that doesn’t make sense.
So many factors depend on the weather in particular and can change a lot quickly if you fly with live weather.

This has probably been ‘Wishlisted’ elsewhere but might I suggest editing* the .FLT file? It worked for me on my long-haul VFR from UK to Australia.

  • you’d be loking to change bits of this:

it works for the time too (I had to reset the clock back to AM after each leg)
