try spitice color panel with virtual desktop passthrough. works pretty well, but i dont need it anymore now ive got my hotas in muscle memory. also, that comment on flightsim.to was mine.
Does the EFB work in the animated version? Can’t test it atm.. The animated version is my 2020 mod.
Edit: It seems like it doesn’t according to a comment on Flightsim.to
You are right, with the add-on the EFB doesn’t work at all, I can’t open it.
Wow, I just watched a video of the ultimate in VR pass through where a man had a simulator rig and an Australian company built a simulator that gave him pass through throughout his cockpit other than just the panel and the surrounding scenery. He operated his controls with his hands and even was able to get out of his rig and walk around his airplane a bit. I think our future in VR has just begun. I won’t link it here because there are probably competing companies to MS but let’s hope they know where this all needs to go.
That would be pretty awesome!
What bug is that?
no link?
Since the video involved a different sim company (which MS could view as a competitor) I thought it better if I did not include it here. I’m sure a search for what I put could find it.
I have retried using the rkapps simxr addon which allows you to define cutouts using virtual desktop in VR and I got it to work briefly although the instructions for setting it up have not kept up with the newer options of Virtual Desktop and, I had created a cutout for my throttle assembly and went back and forth playing with VR graphics options and it broke the window where you define the cutout (became twice the size with the bottom truncated and you could no longer interact with it). In the end it was just too much hassle until MSFS 2024 becomes much more stable in VR.
Edit: Boy, did I discover something cool in Virtual Desktop (which you have to really search for in any online documentation) There are now 4 check boxes for the Passthrough setup - Environment, Tracked Keyboard, Hands or Desktop Portal.
That last one is a game changer. You go into your Input settings and there’s a button on the bottom where you can define the desktop portal and suddenly you have control over opening up a portal where you can now see your keyboard, your yoke, throttles, etc while in your VR screen with full control of the opacity of that window you build so that you can still see the plane controls behind it. None of that color matching stuff that you need with SimXR. Now SimXR can give you multiple cutouts but they are tough to use and setup and I found them dark and hard to see things. The only gripe I had with the desktop portal is that you can’t really control the tilt of it while you’re setting it up or at least I haven’t figured out how to do that. I’ll try to get a screenshot of how I used it for a flight today.
You need to read the post I was replying too. It’s the VR bug where the cockpit controls stop being clickable every couple of minutes.
Bearing in mind I use the mouse, I’ve found that if I touch the VR controllers by accident or wake one with the vibration of my movements it causes my mouse to become unresponsive. But to fix it I have to pick up a vr controller and point n click somewhere in front of me then I can go back to the mouse. This is using a Q3 and VD.
Yeah I’ve heard about this workaround. Unfortunately many of us use HMDs where the controllers cost around 300 euro separately and since we’d never or rarely use then, many of us don’t have them.
But even this workaround is still a workaround and kind of annoying, should just be fixed.
Oh indeed the use of one peripheral shouldn’t lock out another in the first place, especially when having to feel for the ■■■■■■ controllers with the headset on.
Just a silly Idea but If you don’t have VR controllers, I wonder if there is a way to have the mouse controlled via your headset as a temporary (or not so temporary) workaround, or even just a standard controller to jog it back into normal operation. Not ideal at all and probably a pain to deal with to be honest but an idea all the same until it’s fixed, if it ever is!
Whenever the mouse stops interacting with controls in the cockpit, I simply click the right mouse button and magically the mouse starts working correctly again. So that bug is a very minor annoyance to me.
Seriously? First I’ve heard of this, will need to try when i next purchase FS2024 or get gamepass lol.
Yes, I have noticed this too (well, actually I just started frantically clicking on both mouse buttons one time and it fixed the issue)
I’ve seen it work sometimes but not all the time. When it gets bad, I toggle out and back into VR.
I’ve noticed a regression in both my quest 3 controller and mouse interactions in recent days/builds (SU2 beta, Asobo 737)

Quest controller pointer starts flickering between interacting with cockpit and pointing thru the cockpit into the ether beyond. This seems to happen mostly when I have the controller well off to the periphery of the headset (such as when leaning over to program the FMC). When this flickering starts, I am unable to select anything. Pulling my head back and putting the controller forward in my view stops the flickering. I have taken to squinting to program the FMC from a further distance.

The mouse, which I pretty much only use to interact with menus and the EFB (because they are tricky to manipulate with quest controller), can no longer interact with EFB. It’s like there’s a forcefield that deflects the mouse cursor away from the EFB screen.
Outside of these issues, I’d love for there to be a focus on allowing VR controllers to work well everywhere:
- Ability to scroll in menus/EFB with the thumbstick
- Ability to remap menu/EFB select button (I like A for select rather than the trigger)
