A few days in so far and I’m not a pilot but I wanted to check and see if this is normal.
I was given clearance to land at a local general aviation airport. On approach I almost collided with what looked like an Airbus A320. The tower then called out for that flight to do a “go around”.
I kept on approach although I was concerned about being in the wake (figured it’s a sim) and just landed.
I’ve never seen anything that big land at this airport, so I looked up the tail number on flight aware and it turned out to just be a Learjet 60.
So, do most twin engines jets look like a jumbo jet in MSFS? Does ATC just blindly clear you to land ?
If I’m in a Cessna 152, would the tower call the jumbo jet off for me to land? I figure I’d have been given a GTFO and go around way before.
Yes, it there are a few “generic” models MSFS uses to depict the traffic, i think it matches them randomly. If you are on PC you can somewhat fix that by installing AIG, but that will not show small private jets, but the matching would be something more fitting, maybe a crj or something.
Yes, everything that gets to a certain distance to the airport gets clearance immediately, and gets told to go around last second if there is a conflict. I somewhat work around that by watching the traffic on a second screen on little navmap and do the separation myself.
I think a heavy plane would get priority over a cessna, but im not entirely sure about that.
It depends if they think you can get off the runway before the jumbo has to call their own go around for not getting cleared to land, but if it’s really close they just extend you out a bit as they know you won’t catch up once you’re #2 behind the jet. I will say that being GA and being #2 behind and in front of A-320’s gets nerves up a little more on approach.
