Trains+Tram Addon for Zürich Switzerland S-Bahn Trains

FS trains has North America, Switzerland and a Germany train addon. They are on the marketplace. I have the North America version but it doesn’t run too well in MSFS’24. The Swiss and German one I haven’t tried (were a bit too pricey for me, compared with North America). Unfortunately it seems the developer has abandoned the project.

I’m eager to try your version as it appears to have sounds and lights (N. America FS Trains don’t have that). As you can see, there’s a market for Trains in MSFS!

FSTrains Switzerland works well. Just don’t see the need for a second product. This doesn’t look to deliver anything different than what’s already available. There is a free trial in the MP.

I support what you’re doing. But if you had picked France, England, USA Freight, etc., it would have been an instant purchase. But don’t see the need to buy Switzerland again.

Interesting video. I think my main concern at this point would be the resolution of the trackbed, both in terms of DEM and photogrammetry. In some areas of Switzerland its pretty good. In others (as can be seen in the video) it’s not.

I’m guessing that the trains follow vector path lines, which hopefully will accurately conform to the MSFS trackbed photogrammetry, unlike a lot of the road traffic one sees in 2024 that travels from a few feet to a few yards off-road, as there is a mis-match between the road’s vector data & terrain imagery.

Creating a realistic trackbed (including points & cross-overs, etc.) that matches the vector-path (including accurate elevation & gradients), and overlays the terrain would be a big plus, but this may not be possible within the constraints of the current SDK. Gantry & Wire placement may also be problematic.

I’m not too concerned about trains running on a current timetable. From comments made when the other train addon was released, purchasers wanted to see more trains than the real-life timetables required. Custom timetables also allows for a simplified traffic-control & signalling system, should that be contemplated.

Hello

The problem is the source of the railway database. Switzerland have “Open Government Data (OGD)”.

For the US, they have railway lines aviable for use. And I could make some fake freight and passenger trains driving around.

Thats why there aren’t any add-ons exept for Switzerland with real train traffic.

Thanks for your input.

I’m currently working on the following features:

  • Real-time traffic

  • Custom AI traffic density (Levels 1–10): You’ll be able to choose how many simulated trains are driving around.

We still have to keep in mind that this is primarily a flight simulator. Because of that, I don’t plan on adding real 3D train tracks. They often look artificial, and it’s nearly impossible to place them flawlessly on the ground across an entire country. I’m also skipping overhead power lines. Everything has to remain resource-friendly and shouldn’t kill your FPS.

In most areas, I’ve done manual ground alignment so the trains don’t float in the air or sink into the terrain, and it’s working really well so far! While it won’t be 100% perfect, you won’t even notice any minor imperfections, even from a low flying altitude.

Later I can see what I can do for other countries…

The engine was the biggest work. I spen`t over 200hrs on it.

FSTrains does NOT work well. At least not the Germany version I have. The amount of traffic is riduculously low, it takes hours until you finally spot a train even in the most densely populated areas with the densest train schedule.
Also there only seem to be about only 3 different coach and train models and it doesn’t reflect the variety at all.
So this does indeed look much better.

What you just stated does not apply to Switzerland. There are plenty of running trains in it. How about reserving comment about a product you haven’t tried.

Hello

Yeah i heard FSTrains don`t work well. Im now about 90% done with Switzerland Addon. If I can make a few sales on my Pro version, I will make Germany next as country. I`m developing it alone in my free time every day.

Just a side note to lighten the mood: in Germany, trains rarely actually run—and certainly not according to the timetable.(Sorry, that’s a running gag in Switzerland about Deutsche Bahn.) I’m looking forward to these add-ons—keep up the good work!

I will make the “Verspätung” or “Zugausfall” for you

Nice. I’m also a fairly unhappy customer of FS trains and would be willing to rebuy both Switzerland and Germany if the traffic density is higher, especially if it can be adjusted! Assuming the pricing is reasonable.

What kind of prices are you planning and will you submit it to the Marketplace?

Hello

My version use a Exe file to connect with Simconnect. In this case i cant put it in marketplace. I will make it a affordoble price.

Switzerland is almost complete, now I`m working on germany.

This is the Train Monitor. It also have a live Map where you see your possition and all the trains running on a Map. And no files require a internet connection or a outside server.

My goal is to make a free version for a small region in a country, so you can test it if its working as you wish before you buy the whole country.

Ha this looks amazing. How many different train models will there be?

Several models. Once everything is working I can add more models. Also I will continue to update the products after the launch for a while and listen to feedbacks. Depends on the demand and sales. Freight trains are all randomly generated, so they dont look the same. Also they have different lengths. Also tanks, open freight carriers. I want to relase a good product. But keep in mind its a flight Simulator and not a train simulator. I do my best what MSFS SDK offers.

This looks awesome congrats on your mod, I’ll await SU6 going public then will look to purchase the pro version to support you, good luck

totally agree with you, no need to overdo your addon. I’m happy your models show lights and sounds and that you’re working on a reasonable density or realistic-as-possible traffic schedules.

There’s a growing number of simmers who are realizing the full living-world potential of msfs24, there are more and more non-airborne addons like ships, all-terrain cars, hiking and even a fishing addon. Trains was something I wished for a long time besides a decent birds/bird strike addon. So, thanks again for your work!

First tests in Hamburg Germany. MSFS Photogrametry is really a big challange…

looking great, I guess models just pass trough photogrammetry obstacles and tunnels?

Thats the plan. I have issues for them to drive over the PG Viaducts/ Bridges… Tunnels works well so far. For Switzerland I have much better data sources for train tracks with height elevation.
