Ignore what’s in the Content Manager.
Check your MS Store app to see if MSFS got downloaded since 24 November. It should have a list of apps that have been downloaded (or pending).
Apparently, I’m not alone having weird issues with the MS Store and this game in particular.
Quite honestly, this is like a bad joke.
I’ll give it one last shot when the VR support is made public. If I keep having issues installing and/or updating by then, I’ll get in touch with MS and demand a refund. I don’t spend this kind of money on a title I can’t install and keep on the most current version.
We use the MS App store for our app and I’d say about 5% don’t get our update I have a couple of friends that work at MS and I’ve brought this up to them about why the MS Store doesn’t push down updates to some clients. Most of the issues are related to device (according to them) and authentication. They were going to find out more about it.
It’s like MSFS, same thing where it doesn’t get pushed to the end user’s MS Store app and without that installer, you are stuck.
I had issues already when I was part of the Alpha team. I then talked directly to MS and when they eventually suggested I should do a clean install of Windows, I decided to spend my time and energy on more rewarding things…
I guess I was hoping the “finished” version wouldn’t have the same issues.
Have you tried going into the ‘Download Queue’ in the MS Store app to see if there is a pending update there for the MSFS launcher?
Yes, the reinstall of Windows works. But we shouldn’t have to do that! MS has built this Store so closely into Windows that any hiccup causes a torrent of failures.
So I decided to uninstall MSFS and hope to be able to reinstall from scratch…but so far, getting errors from the MS Store…This is not pretty…
Yes, you should have not done that.
If the Store isn’t throwing you the installer for an update, you will not be able to reinstall as it won’t give you the installer.
There’s several others on this forum in the same boat and the only way to fix it was to reinstall Windows because every attempt to fix the Store app failed (from uninstalling/reinstalling, clearing it’s cache, run troubleshooter, system file checker, DSIM, reinstalling store packages, etc.)
In most cases, just clearing the Store cache should work, but it isn’t.
Well, my great nightmare might be over. I ended up reinstalling Windows, which allowed me to download from the MS Store. However, only 2 planes (C150 and a second) showed up in my Hangar. All the other content had to be downloaded from Content Manager. That is where the fun began. Almost every one, ended up with Package Failure (a few worked), but by leaving FS and restarting, it redownloaded the packages at the starting “Checking for Content” screen, so I ended up downloading all the content at least twice. Luckily, I haven’t hit my internet data caps yet, but I am close. Now, I just hope the new version is worth the effort.
Thanks for the tips…
Harry
Unfortunately, reinstalling Windows is the only way of fixing that MS Store, as all the other ways don’t work.
Sorry you had to go through all that but glad you’re up and running!
Having to reinstall the operating system only to get Microsoft’s store to work simply isn’t an acceptable solution.
Microsoft needs to get on top of this and sort these notorious issues properly once and for all. Something they should already have done a long time ago. These kind of issues aren’t exactly new but have been there for many years. Quite embarrassing IMO.
No need to contact me about it. Contact MS. There’s an app on your PC called “Feedback Hub”.
I didn’t contact you, I rather expressed my view on this suggestion I’ve had myself from MS in the past. Mentioned in a previous post.
My bad! I had a “Watch” on this thread.
Yes, this has been around since the Store came into existence. Even doing an “in-place” Windows upgrade/repair only fixes it about 50% of the time.
We have an app in the MS Store for work and about 5% of our Client base never get the update.
Use that Feedback Hub app to report it. A lot of people don’t report. If everyone did that has the problem it would queue it up to a real person.
Yep, it’s a good suggestion for sure. I’ve used the Feedback Hub a number of times and might do it for this issue as well next time I try to install this game if/when I’ll be facing the same issues.
This MS Store is absolutely ridiculous. After days and hours of trying to get it work, I found finally the solution for my problem and get the Monument Valley on the loading screen
Well I have to say, on the last update I couldn’t even start the flight simulator, so I finally found a solution in some forum, that was to delete the package volumes(2-5 in regedit, after doing a BACKUP of it). It worked.
But now on this update, I had exactly the same issue as you: Ther was no update in the store.
I already thought that it would have to do something with this path I deleted, but didn’t remember where it was. So now I found it and restored the backup, and well it worked for now. Wonder when the next problem appears…
Btw. this is the path in the regedit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Appx\PackageVolumes
Hope that helps someone, maybe you got a similar problem. At least there seems to be something wrong…
Edit: As Hester40MT already mentioned, if you mess around in the registry, make a backup of what you will delete or change!!!
I just want to point out that this does work, however, make a backup of the key. The reason is on next update or reinstall, you may get another error. There’s other posts about this.
So, please make a backup of that registry key before you delete it by exporting it.
Absolutely! I now highlited that part, and repeated it at the end if someone doesn’t read your post.
Here is the deal for me. After having a ton of issues with Microsoft Store and FS 2020 download I have had it. After my 5th download from the VERY SLOW Microsoft servers I decided to buy the Deluxe package on STEAM. So another $100 plus and another 154 gigs of downloads. Exceeding the Comcast 1 gigabit speed cap of 1.2 terabytes/month.
What you CAN’T do is get the paid for downloads that were paid for on the Microsoft Store. I mean my $200+ dollars in planes, scenery, are completely gone now. I started to buy them all again but that is absurdly stupid right?? Why pay 3 times for scenery (Kden from FSX, FS 2020 twice)!
How can you get a Steam installed version to have access to the Microsoft paid for Add On downloads??
Don’t tell me I have to deal with the digital signature from Microsoft again (never seems to work) and then download the 200 gigs all over again to another folder so I can copy over the right folder and hope this just works!
That is where I am. Using FS since 1982. My original version was the Apple II Cassette tape of Bruce Artwicks’ original version of Flight Simulator bought out in 1982 by Microsoft from SubLogic.
I am not new to Microsoft Flight Sim. I have been using it since 1981/1982 and kept up with all updates. And have at least a thousand dollars in planes and old scenery from the pathetic previous version FSX!!!
Pretty annoying, had the same problem. The drm license is just 1 number (steam ID and MS Store ID) Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\KHE or/and Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\KHE
The worst of it is that you only buy the same MSFS credits from both stores and even if you use the same Xbox live account they are still seperated. Different profiles so your activities arn’t synced.
So, dont buy from the Store but directly from the developers. And if there is the odd only marketplace seller (Carenado) you can decide what you want.
