I was hoping Travel To would be fixed with this update but instead it’s worse. Top of decent put’s you at the correct distance but 1,000ft above the ground. This is worse than SU7. Anyone else seeing this?
Yeah, I never liked using the Travel to function. I always go through my flights in real time the whole way.
I really don’t have time to site in front of a computer with a VR headset on flying the Longitude for four to six hours, no thank you. Some may have the time for that but I don’t. It sucks with one Sim Update the feature is mostly fixed and with another it’s totally broken. Why offer something you can’t seem to get right? This is a very important feature for those with limited time.
I never said I sit in front of the computer for the whole flight. I take off, I let it on autopilot while I do other things (cook, eat, work, excercise, sleep). Then when it’s time I’ll be back to my PC to do the descent and approach. And I always record it to YouTube on the entire flight. I just don’t sit in front of it the whole time as I have other things to do.
Why don’t you just plan shorter flights then?
@AssuringZoo793
I agree with what this guy says. There are tons of enjoyable short hops! If you’re in the US, I like Bangor to Boston, San Fran to LA, Chicago to Cleveland, stuff like that.
Canadas got some great short routes too though. Toronto to Ottawa/Montreal, Vancouver to Kelowna.
Find some short ones that you like. I must admit though the feeling of actually having gone to a farther away place is cool and all, but for me, much like you, I don’t have the time or interest to watch the autopilot for 4 hours.
If you can’t fly long flights because the sim is buggy just do short flights only.
If your nose hurts when you touch it just don’t touch your nose.
But seriously have you reported the bug on Zendesk? And maybe you should have posted this in the Bugs&Issues forum.
In a smaller GA that makes since but why have a shiny new Longitude if you can’t fly long range?
That’s all good but a feature in the sim should work if you’re going to include aircraft like the Longitued, 748, and 777. Hey, Asobo put the feature in not me so I expect it to work especially when it was working in the last Sim Update…
It’s like you really have to enjoy things in the moment because the next update can screw it all up and your off to alternatives which is the ‘Captain Obvious’ solutions some of you are suggesting here.
I posted this in the beta forums, and I found posting it here gets attention as well. As I said in another post the ‘Captain Obvious’ solution of going to something else until the next update is already in order. Just the same it’s frustrating when it was partially working in SU7 and now useless in SU8. How many times to be we have to be here with every new Sim Update? Asobo did such a good job with this update that it’s a letdown they broke something again fixing other things.
Its the same reason why people prefer prop planes over tubeliners or bush flights over commercial flights: It’s just how they want to play the game.
sure, but long range takes a long time. The bizz jets are often used on shorter hops as well. It’s the way I fly the CRJ; hops of between 1 and 1.5 hours. You get all the fun IFR flying (taxi, take off, SID, 1 or 2 airways, STAR, approach and landing), and none of the boring cruise.
Experience wise, what is the difference between doing a 1 hour flight, and doing a 5 hour flight and skipping 4 hours of it?
Don’t get me wrong; if there’s a ‘travel to’ option, it should work as intended. But in the mean time just flying shorter hops seems like a valid alternative to me. I’m not telling you ‘you’re doing it wrong’
The beauty of a sim is that you can enjoy it in any way you want.
Great post. After testing a bit more I’m finding airports with published approaches (at least in the default planner) is working for the most part. It’s still hit and miss, more like ‘A Box of Chocolates’ (for those that know of Forest Gump) but I’m discovering what works and what doesn’t. At least it’s not like I previously thought where it appeared it wasn’t working at all.
After further testing I found airports with established STARS that you can choose in the default planner spawn at top of decent like it should at the correct altitude. Airports that don’t you have to create your approach with waypoints that you choose (within reason, you don’t have to over do it) to guide you to the ILS or RNAV final course. Once that is done in the default flight planner you spawn at the correct altitude for top of decent. Problem is solved on that front. Asobo still needs to work on the feature but that’s the solution for what I originally posted.
