Tray Tool 0.87.4.0 Unusable?

After seeing a few vids on YouTube about improving graphics and performance for PC use, I downloaded the latest version of Tray Tool. Hoping to improve performance in MS Flightsim 2020. Followed various Tray Tool setting modes but none work, even at lowest settings? The PC Home VR screen is very shaky, with a wobbly black border, and jumping mouse pointer or controller pointer? Latest Oculus software PC and Quest 2, version 29.0. System, Intel i9-11900K cpu, 32GB ram, RTX3090 gpu. Any advice please.

2 things:

  1. Try the Airlink and see if stable
  2. Check your USB test in the Oculus software is valid.

Oh and finally, run the Oculus Fixer in the diagnostics directory before running VR in FS.

Thanks for reply. I have to use Air Link, as I can not use the Link cable since my new hardware. I think I know where the Oculus Fixer is, but where is the USB tester?

connection test is in the Oculus software under Devices. You should get a result of 1.5 - 2.0 Gbps

Thanks. But where IS this connection test in the Oculus/Devices? It is NO WHERE to be found? In Devices and I can see a green circle ‘Connected and Active’ and ALL there else in the list is:- (6 listed)
Quest 2 Mic, Quest 2 Headphones, Hear VR Audio PC, Hear VR Audio VR, Graphics Prefs, (set to 80Hz), and lastly Quest 2 Support. There is NO Connection Test listed anywhere. I do have the very latest 29.0 update for the PC and the Headset. Despite using the ‘Oculus Fixer’ and 'Driver exe, et., I still can not use the Tray Tool 0.87.4.0 software. Again, when active, I get a shaky screen, a wobbly black border, and jumping controller or mouse cursors? i have now removed this Tray Tool.

It’s here per the screenshot.

Perhaps you haven’t got your USB connected to enable Link. If your cable doesn’t work then you need a proper compatible cable (plenty on Amazon), update your USB MoBo drivers too.

Thanks. I thought I made this clear. I can NOT use the link cable. Despite the massive efforts from Oculus Support to try and solve this problem there is still NO fix. And Win 10 just keeps on saying ‘USB Device not recognised’. However, the Link Cable DOES charge the Quest 2, and if I plug in my Lacie Portable SSD into the Oculus Link Cable the SSD works fine showing all the files. So data IS being transmitted. Either it is a fault with the Quest 2 or a driver problem. This has ONLY happened since the MB, CPU, RAM upgrade? Over 4 weeks now, and I am still ‘brow beating’ Oculus for a solution?

You’ve done all this, step by step?

Plus:

Thanks. Yes, every possible effort, and I mean ‘EVERY’ to try and solve this problem. In my view the Quest 2 is ‘Not fit for purpose’? I should get a replacement from Oculus under the Warranty , but all Oculus keep doing is keep ‘sweeping this problem under the carpet’ then I am transferred to another Oculus Support Operative and have to explain the problem all over again from fresh. It is driving me mad!

Yes I see your angst.

What you have stated above in your posts, suggests to me it is Windows-related rather than Quest2 related. I did have a similar problem and solved it by updating my AS Media USB drivers that I downloaded direct from their website, rather than relying on the somewhat flaky Windows Update.

The jumping about and juddering etc that you described suggests to me that the Airlink is not fast enough to drive the data, hence you need a USB Link. The system you have should be “flying” along without problems.

Is there someone who could remote connect to your pooter and assist? I have asked MicroSoft in the past to do this and they agreed as a “one-off”, so it may be worth trying and asking nicely. I used the MicroSoft CHAT function in their Help section and managed to persuade them to put me on to one of their technical experts who remoted-on. What he did was actually set me up with a new Windows profile as a test, and made sure it worked, then transferred all my existing data over and re-installing.

Another thing I have done in the past is set up a new Windows account and installed a troublesome program to try it out. In fact I did this with the original Rift. I checked with MicroSoft and they confirmed the licence agreement allows this as it is covered by the condition that you can use the Windows OS on one computer at a time. As you have a new installation it is effectively a new machine. Once tested I discovered it was a USB driver issue plus a mix-up with a conflicting program and usage rights so I could narrow it down.

That’s probably as far as I can go via messages on a Bulletin board such as this.

My best wishes and good luck. If you resolve it, do update so we can see how you get on and whether it subsequently works.

Hopefully you found out before now, but you need to set the link speed to 0 (zero) for Airlink and nVidia cards.

I am also having the same problem as the OP with a rift s, getting device not recognized from the usb device manager. I have no idea how to fix this. I have tried everything and I at my wits end. I will never buy an oculus product again because of this, terrible service also. I will follow this thread and hope someone here might have an answer.
