Helicopters and fixed wing aircraft are treated separately in 2024. So with a fixed wing aircraft loaded, you assign the x and y axis of your joystick to control roll and pitch.
To create assignments for a helicopter, first load a helicopter then assign the cyclic lateral and longitude cyclic to the x and y axis of your joystick.
You will definitely find some YouTube videos on assigning controls in MSFS-2024 that will show you how the controller configuration works in 2024. Much easier to follow with someone showing a video of the sim rather than in text on a forum.
