In-game ATC is absolutely putrid. It is arguably worse than it was in FSX. In fact I’d say there’s no question it is. They tried to dumb it down and simplify it, and all that did was just make it truly Incomprehensible, even if it worked like it supposed to, which apparently it doesn’t. I would strongly recommend Vatsim.
My co-pilot asked for a touch and go again tonight, with a VRF flight plan.
I’m keeping AI ATC off from now on.
I usually keep the AI ATC on just for the ambiance, but man they’ve tried to descend me into mountains over near LAX, and here in Hawai’i for some reason they LOVE to tell me to climb back up to cruising altitude right as I’m starting my STAR. I just ignore 'em. 
Would love to see that system get some work though.
I’ve registered for VATSIM and downloaded a traffic map + the MSFS client. Even bought one of those “motivational speaker” looking microphones to accommodate my wife’s rule of “no headphones.” (Because she wants to be able to yell for me lol.
I keep telling myself, “ok this weekend I’ll take my first flight on VATSIM!”
Having 3 grown children I get your wife on the headphones! At least she can hear and share in the experience.
@Maki152, and others have pointed out that it’s a welcoming community that looks out for it’s noobs.
I’ve seen real commercial pilots on YouTube get intimidated by vatsim.
I’m in a phase now where I’m enjoying my man/machine aspect of flying without involving others. I suspect in time I’ll get there.
