Hi there.
I’ve started to create EDDS. Is there a way to add an overlay image while developing to the editor?
The reason is, BING has not enough informations of EDDS but the highway (autobahn) looks pretty acurate. So what i want to do is to use a google maps image, lay it over (according to the autobahn) and go from there to place my objects. Is that possible? How?
For better understanding: I would take a screenshot of the google maps image for overlay.
Don’t know what CthruView means, but i guess thats the way to set an opacity over my layer. But before that i need to know how i can uploade my image and use it as material
Read, understand, answer. That’s the way it goes.
In the final none of google images will be in the scenery.
It is kind of a blue print for me to set the objects as accurate as possible and will be deleted when im done
For better understanding why i take this challenge is this:
There will never ever be EDDS in any updates because of the bing information:
Check it out: Bing Maps - Directions, trip planning, traffic cameras & more search EDDS, go to sattelite view
Google in the other hand has a perfect imagery: Google Maps
So the only way for EDDS to come is by payware. Im trying to add a free one for everybody. I don’t know why. Maybe because im missing this airport so much and don’t want to pay for it. But i guess, because im nuts.
Well only a few (20, 30 for premium deluxe !but don’t expect my numbers right!) are handmade. The others (xthouseds) are generated by bing map data.
As i said in my previous post, there is no bing map data available for this (and many airports). So they can’t be generated. So there is no way for MS to give us those airports (wether generated, not manually edited) beside of real manual crafting it. And this will not be free but a payware addon.
I like payware. Don’t get me wrong (if it’s good). But only for an airport that is supposed to be there, im not paying a penny. That’s why i try (right now it’s only a try and i gave my self a time limit) to build at least that one.
a person went in and traced the boundaries and runway paths and dimensions by hand for all of them. (from the photo yes, but the AI didn’t just go do it automatically)
I guess it’s possible in theory.
You’d have to turn the satellite image into a texture, make a material out of that texture in your project, then create a big surface (e.g. apron) on the EDDS site, apply the material and make it semi-transparent.
However I’d imagine lining the satelite image up, getting it to exactly the right size and orientaion, etc. by fiddling with the texture and UV values is quite a pain.
So while I’m working on my own airport project I find it much easier to get the coordinates for whatever I’m trying to place from online maps and punch those directly into the placement gizmo.
