Its been helping a LOT! and im able to fly again with very smooth fps.

Does it? As far as I’ve there is at least some increase in GPU-MEM usage when cranking it up, but I did not do much flying as of yet…

No … it does what it’s supposed to do which is lessen vram load but 99% of simmers no longer have that problem due to all the other data handling changes they made in SU5. Setting it to anything but ultra introduces stutters when panning.
Um, until a few minutes ago I assumed that option would address the pop-up buildings etc. when panning by pre-loading more stuff into VRAM? This is not correct then?
No… Setting it higher only reduces the culling, ultra is off. Popping in still happens but they moved it further back and now fade it in, but it has nothing to do with the slider.

I guess that depends on how much vram you have but up until a month ago I only had 2GB and it was still better left on ultra. Think of ram and vram as a temporary fuel tank, it hardly matters how full it is so long as it never runs empty.
Thanks for your reply. I got a 3090, so VRAM is not an issue. However, I initially expected that with this setting on Ultra, the available VRAM would finally be utilized - but I’m still hovering at 7…9GB utilization only. Do you know of any settings / config file tweaks to help with that? Does this setting need config file tweaks in addition to in-game settings?
What is there to help? as I said their new data handling in memory means that you don’t need as much being stored there.
Right now there’s nothing you can do about vram however at some time I expect we will get Direct Storage. How much of a bonus that will be I can’t really say.
