Trying to improve performance on my new PC

I am trying to improve my performance on MSFS today, as I just got this new pc, the specs are:
i7-14700k
RTX 4070 Super
32gb ram

I am currently testing performance at inibuilds EGLL with FSLTL traffic and Fenix a320.

here are my graphics settings right now:

any ideas on what i could do? i was going to use frame generation but im going to be using multi monitors.

TLOD and OLOD now both on 100

all settings now on medium

Task manager performance saying this right now.

Enable frame gen and try that

I have HWS enabled but its not letting me for some reason
edit: i believe i need DX12 on.

I’m guessing you have an HD monitor. If so, watch the video below. DLDSR can ‘fake’ higher screen resolution.

I think you would have better performance if you were able to run the game at 1440P, or even 4K. I’ve heard it said many times here that putting more demands on your very capable GPU would reduce the demands on your CPU.

If you are looking for fps… the shortest path to that is DLSS… but i find that you loose too much resolution for my liking so I (like you) reverted back to TAA.

Other than that i can chime in that terrain lod has a massive impact on cpu usage, not so much on gpu, and settings above 200 dont look that much better and quickly become a cpu bottleneck.

DX12 does seem to use somewhat less cpu for the same visual quality… but its still a bit buggy, i see strange artifacts in the water and in some terrain

VSync ON fixed a problem i was having with stutters that i couldnt track down, its butter smooth now… albeit at a lower (but more constant) fps

Terrain precaching is a tradeoff between lower cpu usage (low setting) and high cpu usage but much smoother camera pan movements (ultra)

Frame gen on

You will not see the doubled frame rate in the Dev counter.
If you use an overlay (like GeForce nVidia overlay) you’d see about 58 FPS reported.

good lord, 11gb vram in 1080p?? How is that even possibile/acceptable as a dx12 optimization: if it eats that much vram it really become unsable i guess

edit: in any case in my experience the only thing is holding you back is tlod which is the only one thing that will improve performance at 3rd party airports with fsltl and gsx on

you can set everything else to ultra

probably tlod 100 will work just fine

Continue your debug by running that same scenario but disable FSLTL.

That app can bring your CPU to its knees if you crank up the traffic settings. Disable it completely to understand what level of impact it may be causing.

ive disabled fsltl and there is a visible difference, its saying 41fps but visually looks like its at 60+

yeah, ive changed TLOD to 100 and there is a big difference, thank you.

FSTL can be a big resource hog if set too high.

However, you really should be able to get better performance with this setup. My 1% lows with a 14900K and 4090 and terrain LOD at 400 are in the low to mid 30s.

Can you post a screenshot of the HWInfo Summary View?

i do need to change tlod if im flying fenix or inia300 and fly from/into 3rd parties

otherwise you’re going to be able to stay on 200 on everything else and even 300 if bush flying with less resource intensive planes

it’s a pain to keep adjusting tlod but it’s necessary (at least for me)

other than that just push everything else on ultra, you’re gpu isn’t even sweating, also i suggest to enable dldsr from nvidia control panel and set the ingame resolution to atleast 2k

edit: fsltl is indeed a resource hog for cpu, but you can reduce quite a lot the settings and achieve acceptable results performance wise

That’s because your frame gen is running at ~82 FPS.
Again… Dev mode does not show you the frame doubled rate.

Put off screen terain cache to ultra

Don’t use in dev counter. Won’t show the frame gen benefits, using nvidia FPS counter you should have double that

Ok thank you.
