Turn Off Auto-Center Rudder

I play with a controller so I do not use physical rudders. I wish there was a way to incrementally change the rudder. I understand there is rudder trim on some planes but not most. Really, I just wish the rudder didn’t snap back to the center every time I let go of it. In order to hold a bearing I have to tweak the rudder literally every two seconds. Am I missing something?

Same for me - really frustrating - if I try to use the rudder, period, it recenters. If I hold the switches on my yoke they snap in that direction, wobbling the plane abruptly, then the nose turns and dives, until you let go of the switch, and it recenters.

Same exact switches (just horizontal, Honeycomb Yoke) for elevator and you can do either, single click inputs or continuous hold inputs, plane does what is expected, does not recenter.

So frustrating that I can’t seem to get the rudder to behave like the elevator. Happens with keyboard or yoke so something is bugged or still switched ON, though autorudder is NOT on, not assigned on the keyboard and NOT assigned on the yoke. Anyone with a clue how to fix this - it would be great.

I’m actually not flying using controller but with pedals and HOTAS, but I wanted to add a my point of view to this

As MSFS is a simulator the rudder works just as expected - if you fly an aircraft and hit the rudder it would go into one direction and as soon as you’d let go it would snap back due to aerodynamic forces coming from the front.

As you already said there is rudder trim which you’d use also irl if there is a constant crosswind component (like wind coming with 15kn from the right front) to not fight the controls.

Anyway irl you often HAVE to fight the controls, just watch the rudder on this 737:

So basically even in real life you would do the following to keep your bearing:

  1. Use the autopilot if available (which is equipped with all G1000+ aircraft)
  2. Use rudder trim to counteract (you can set it to some keys/buttons too! It will increase or decrease deflection on single clicks or while button is held down till you release it again - I think it’s even possible to map a recenter button)

On MSFS you can also already activate auto rudder in assistance menu to keep using rudder away from you in difficult situations.
