TurtleBeach Velocity 1 vs. Logitech Saitek Pro Flight Yoke vs. Thrustmaster TCA Captain Pack

Hiya,
I’ve been playing flight sim for a couple of months now.
I was given a flight stick by someone but it hasn’t been very good and has resulted in me using my keyboard and mouse.
I have decided to get myself a flight yoke/side stick and throttle quadrant.
I came across the TurtleBeach V1, Logitech Flight Yoke and the thrustmaster TCA Captain Pack.
All seem like decent options but not sure what the best one is to get.
If the V1 was best I would buy it used as don’t want to pay £350 when can get used for £185, as well as buying the TCA used as well. Logitech would be brand new as the price is decent.

Has anyone had experience with any three and could tell me what they’re like? Or know if there are any better alternatives?

Thanks.

(Pls mind the username as made the account when I was young and don’t feel like paying 8 pounds to change it :joy:)

Hi @Gamerboii458442

I’ve had the Turtle Beach V1 for around 18 months now. It’s adequate for me (I’m a fairly serious flight simmer) but for an entry level product at that price it’s a good buy.
It does feel like it’s built cheaply, and mine has an intermittent light problem where one or two of the lights on the yoke don’t light up. 18 months in, and it is starting to feel sticky and I’m noticing it more and more.
I will be upgrading to the Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo when I upgrade my entire gaming PC for FS2024.
The price difference between the V1 and Honeycomb AB is quite large, so it all depends on how much you want to spend.

Do you consider the honeycomb alpha as well? Just got that one, I don’t have any experience with the other brands but all I can share regarding the Honeycomb is that it’s great quality and feels quite realistic, obviously not like real life but it’s good.
Talking about a little c172 experience here.

I don’t know if your stick had a twist option? I started with a cheap stick too and use that one for taxi and throttle for know.

Hi @flybeast691 and @SkyLane7277
The Honeycomb alpha and bravo system does look very good, but 190 pounds used just for the throttle quadrant isn’t what i’m really wanting to spend right now. Maybe best to get the V1 used as the price is quite good. It also (hopefully) won’t have the ‘sticky’ problem people have reported when new. I think maybe for what the TCA is, it’s just too much money.
Thanks for your help

@SkyLane7277
My stick did have a ‘twist’ option but it was so stiff i had to push the stick down then twist it otherwise the whole thing moved, hardly used it. I had the Mad Catz Fly 5.

The throttle also either went full or nothing. I had to put the throttle in the middle and adjust it another way. Very annoying……

I was exactly in the same boat! The price was just to much, until I read this:

So I bought a cheap stick and started saving money, still happy I went this way.

55 euros and has the rudder and throttle. Now I have time to save money again and have a great experience from the beginning.

Hope this helps in this difficult decision…

Yea than that’s pretty useless….

Yeah, it is pretty terrible.

I concur. The Logitech and TB offerings are low end plastic that will likely end up disappointing in time. It’s probably better to get a cheaper joystick with twist for now and save those pennies for something better down the track. Look for mostly metal and contactless sensors and you won’t go far wrong. Good things come to those who wait bodes well with flight simming.

That was my thought as well. For the long run you’ll be better off.

That’s given me a bit to think about, thanks for your help! I do like the look of the honeycomb so definitely will consider.

If you’re looking for a joystick, the VKB Gladiator is available new for less than the £185 you mentioned for a used TB V1. This includes postage to the UK from the VKB EU store in the Netherlands, and they usually arrive within 4-5 days of ordering.

I don’t have any experience of the TB or Honeycomb products mentioned, but the Gladiator is in a different league for design & build quality and flying feel compared to anything from Thrustmaster or Logitech that I have used.
