Twin Otter Engine Sounds

I really like the plane and would like to fly with it more, but at this stage, the engine sounds are a 1/5.
Sadly this kills the fun of this plane and I went back to the Kodiak, which is a example how a professional Soundset should work on a plane which was made over 1,5 years. Maybe be back when there are Soundmods, or a Update. At this stage, the plane will be grounded.

Features wwise sound set with close to 300 spatially placed sounds.

Maybe they should have gone for 301… :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Copy the Kodiak sound over to the Twotter?

Google FTSim, highly recommended, use their packs for Xp11 and have started checking them out for MSFS.

They will likely have a sound pack for it soon.

Thanks for the feedback. Sound is vitally important for the experience and immersion. Many developers need to put more effort into sound which can ruin an otherwise great aircraft. Luckily there are some fantastic examples of sound done very well.

I will hold off purchasing for now and re-visit if the sound improves to match the rest of the plane.

will keep an eye on it. There is also a TTS Sound Set for the Twotter , but it´s for FSX but sounds ■■■■ good. Sadly its for FSX Twotter

Aerosoft unfortunately forgot to include headphones with the Twin Otter
The motors are so loud that I can hardly understand the radio…
So the plane still has to stay on the ground :frowning:

The engine sound sounds to me like all the doors are open. But I can’t do more than close the doors!

Can you perhaps provide the community with information that is more constructive? Your 1/5 rating indicates you’re not pleased, though for what reasons? Are there actual issues with the sound or is this your opinion? And it’s alright to have an opinion though it’s also good for us to know what leads us to our opinions. Tried turning off/on headphone simulation to see if there is any difference? Have you perhaps tried comparing the sound with Spatial Sound off versus on or vice versa? Are you using headphones or speakers? I read a few other mentions about the sound and one post that mentions a bit more detail. I’d like to get the aircraft but I’m like you, bad sound can absolutely ruin the experience. I enjoyed this AC in FS10, would like to enjoy it in FS11

For my part, I am actually satisfied with the sound! I don’t want to judge whether it is realistic or not. What is very disturbing for me, however, is that I can hardly hear the radio because the engine sound is very loud. I haven’t yet looked into how far you could adjust this in the game/sim, because that would then also affect all other aircraft where the tuning is absolutely right, and I don’t want that.

Hi

I have flown a few short flights with different vartiants in MSFS.
I dont know what the real plane sounds like. But it is very loud in the cockpit in msfs - I can hardly hear the radio.
I do like the sound - but some of the transitions seem a bit clunky to me from low power moving up it does not sound smooth to me.

I love the plane though so I hope it is resolved, its not enough to put me off flying and dont let this be why you delay buying this beauty.

The transitions for prop RPM changes are really abrupt and poorly executed in my opinion. It sounds like they are fading between like 4 or 5 samples for the entire RPM range. It’s really noticeable to me and it bothers me because it sounds like one of the props has failed when trying to pull the RPMs back for cruise power.

Yup i found the same thing. It;s like they recorded the engines at a couple of RPM settings, and are now crossfading between these samples. They don’t smoothly change in pitch, like they would in a real engine.

In fact there should be 2 independant engine noises: one for the PT-6 itself, and another one for the prop. In a turboprop engine these are separate entities. The engine can run at a certain RPM with the prop doing it’s thing based on the pitch of the blades combined with the power setting of the engine as well as airflow. They got that right in the Kodiak.

I really hope Aerosoft can get this right, otherwise this will be the last of their products I bought. In fact I;m feeling a bit of buyers remorse as it is already.

Will repost this here: https://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/169836-its-so-loud/&do=findComment&comment=1072680

Transitions should be smoother with the release of the first patch (no ETA seen yet).

It’s funny how when you open the cargo door, the wind starts to howl, like your 10,000 feet up… But this is sat at the gate with engines off, on a calm sunny day lol…

Hopefully! Sadly this does not work for the Twotter MSFS, sounds solid and this was what I was hoping for the Twotter Sounds on Release

Same problem for me. The Twin Otter is so loud, I can’t understand ATC at all.
And I have to dial back the loudness of my headphones like crazy.
Clearly a bug.
Have you reported it to Aerosoft already @MeixnerHannes ?

Your OP sounds like a rant!
Maybe read the other thread about the Otter.
Feelings about the sound are all over the place.
I would say if it doesn’t meet your expectations ranting won’t do anything about it. Tell the developers.
If the developers think it is wrong or bad they will fix it. If not and you don’t like it use your wallet to convey your displeasure with future products they produce!

I googled around, I know this aircraft is crazy loud, but I wanted confirmation - check this out:

"I must say the aircraft was 10x louder than I expected, and I was so pleased to have packed a pair of travel earplugs which I always have in my bag. " Source: LOUD Loganair DHC6 Twin-Otter G-SGTS Glasgow to Tiree - YouTube

No I don’t know anything about the YouTuber.

As per the manual.

“Sounds:Jeroen Doorman / Turbine Sound Studios/ Jake”

“A special mentioning to tester Jake, who went out of his way to assist us with feedback on the flight model, recorded sounds and basically made this project much better. Testers Travis, Sven, Erik V. and Eric B also did contribute tremendously to this project.”

Haven’t tried it yet but since I got it years ago for FS10 I went ahead and got it. Aerosoft is always good with updating their products. :slightly_smiling_face:

Isn’t there a sound slider for engines in FS11 sound settings? That might help some.

The Twin Otter is the only plane I’ve flown on in recent times.

It is loud but it’s more of slightly muffled drone/ buzz than this version. Though it’s the same sound.

You can conduct a conversation in one with some projection, but if I were taking a long flight I’d definitely want some noise cancellation.
