Two questions

Hi there! I’m new here, although not new to MSFS, which I’ve flown since 3.0, when one could still land on the Golden Gate Bridge or the occasional aircraft carrier. Oh, and do crop dusting games or dogfighting other biplanes. Good times, good times.

Nevertheless, I do enjoy FS2020 and long anticipated it, even though it’s quite wonky currently. I feel relatively at home, but I still have two questions I can’t find answered.

First: the pilot’s profile menu has three tabs: statistics, awards, achievements (names may vary, I have the German version). Statistics: buggy numbers. That’s okay. Achievements, I’m working on them. Okay too, mostly. But what are the awards for? How would I earn one? In FS X there were missions that got you them, but I don’t see that here.

Second: how does the SmartView work? I’ve circled around the Atomium or Space Needle for quite a while, pressing the trigger or S, but I never get the tourist award for watching something with the SmartView from less than 500 m away for 3 seconds. Any hints?

  1. Stats and acheivements are buggier than week-old road kill. Most of my stats are blank or have numbers that are ridiculously out of range. The whole stats system is basically useless at the moment. Same for acheivements. I’ve got the achievement badges for a bunch of stuff I didn’t do, and can’t get the ones for things I’ve actually done. This whole part of the sim should pretty much be ignored for the time being.

  2. Either Smart View is really dumb, or I am, as I haven’t managed to get it working in any appreciable way either. I have no control on what it selects as my target.

Thanks, I figured as much. But what about these awards? Are they buggy too or yet another unimplemented feature like the instrument flight lesson?

I’m not sure what you mean directly by the awards. I’ve generally ignored the pilot profile page in general since it’s horribly broken. And I’m not at home at the moment to check in game to know what you mean.

In case you check at home, the “awards” or “rewards” (or “badges”?) middle tab of the pilot profile details. Statistics to the left, achievements to the right, awards (or what it’s called) in the middle.

Just as a follow up - the “awards” tab is gone now. I suppose it was pointless.
