I have recently seen a youtube video where they had tyre smoke on landing and water contrails.
Any idea when this is coming or an add-on?
You most likely have seen the trailer for the upcoming Xbox version of MSFS? If so, the effects you have seen are coming to the PC version of MSFS as well. I expect in the next Sim Update.

Technically its possible to do it already with the effects editor. I think at least one person has already done it. Aircraft need to have the effect added and updated though.

It may come in Sim Update 5, or it may come later. I’m only saying this so that, if it doesn’t come in Sim Update 5, people aren’t disappointed.
Clearly, something has been built and is sitting in one of their development branches. However, Jörg Neumann, head of Flight Simulator, pointed out in a recent Developer Q&A stream that there is a lengthy testing process that takes place after something has been developed.
Microsoft has, in the past, shown things in their trailers that still took months to show up in production. So I wouldn’t necessarily expect it to show up in Sim Update 5, but if it does, we can all be pleasantly surprised.
