UK Lake District National Park a disappointing version of its natural and ORBX counterpart

I visited the Lake District today in the UK, one of the most beautiful national parks in my country and in some parts of it, its an absolute travesty what FS reproduces, nothing like accurate or anywhere near as beautiful as the real place or the simulated version of it that ORBX produced for X-Plane for that matter.

For example, Cat bells, a very popular and famous bare hillside overlooking Derwent Water near Keswick has trees on it ruining the way it looks and no effort whatsoever has been made to replicate the tree types that exist in the real national park either. Its the mix and placement of trees along with the mountains and lakes that create the overall beauty of this gorgeous part of the world and FS ruins it with the same deciduous trees type liberally planted everywhere. Where are the large National Forestry Commission pine tree plantations on the west shoreline of Bassenthwaite Lake and along the east and west shorelines of Thirlmere for example?

I am disappointed with this area because I really love flying in this gorgeous part of the world but what Asobo and MS have provided is a shadow of the real thing, nowhere close to capturing the natural beauty of this stunning part of the UK and all because they have not identified tree types and replicated them in the sim with any degree of care or accuracy. They can get away with this in many areas but when its the trees that have such a huge impact on a landscape, accuracy becomes much more important.

Some will no doubt say it doesnt matter because overall the sim is really nice but it does to me and should to others if they really want to see what areas of outstanding natural beauty in the world look like. And it raises the question about how many other places in the world they say we can explore are also badly mis-represented. If scenery is the big draw for FS it should be done well and accurately in my opinion.

I love the lake district with a passion and I was hoping to see it replicated beautifully in this new state of the art sim but sadly this has not happened. X-Plane is dead is it? Not if you want to see UK areas of outstanding natural beauty accurately represented it isn’t.

Hi,

I understand your frustration with this as there is lots of places in the UK the does not have that finish as other places in the sim.

But let’s remember that the fact that we can even have these complaints compare so a green auto gen box for a field is an amazing step in the right direction.

I believe that there is a lot more work to go to get the sim up to a standard however compare to P3d or even xplane on a visual level this sim is head and shoulder above them

I love the lake district in msfs… Never been there irl though but it’s one of my favourite areas in the uk to fly. Ofcourse when you know the place very well it’s a whole different experience. But for someone who only heard about it and is going to take a look i think the ai objects together with the aerial images looks very good.

Anyway i heard that there’s more tree types coming in thr feature updates so maybe it will be better for you over time. But as a default scenery it’s really good i.m.o.

MSFS is kind of it’s own enemy; it’s recreated the world beautifully, and some areas are absolutely amazing. Because of that though, the areas that aren’t, are disappointing.

Have you submitted a zendesk ticket, letting them know of the inaccuracies, as they definitely won’t fix it if they don’t know it needs fixing and how?

MS/Asobo should perhaps have recruited the services of the Magratheans. They’ve apparently got a guy that is particularly good at fjords. :stuck_out_tongue:

(The youngsters among you might need Google.)

Don’t go to places you know extremely well or you will just spend time picking faults rather than appreciating what they have done for the whole world, as many people cant be objective.

it is early days, algorithms will be tuned.

Some areas where deciduous trees are correctly placed look great, but its the areas where they have just got it completely wrong that its just so jarring. I think part of my disappointment stems from the fact that the actual tree system FS uses is soooo much better than anything that has come before from a shadow perspective for example, but I can only currently imagine how beautiful it could look with the right tree types. Believe me omarliew if you could see it with the errors corrected, you would be looking at the LD as it really is and it is stunning. If I ever came into money I would be up there looking for a home like a shot.

hawkmoth151 I will do so, it cannot hurt.

That’s what they have said they want people to do. There’s far more local knowledge about such things in the community than they could ever hope to amass for themselves. The world is a really big place.

I bet they’ve had more than a few peeps complaining that their detached house has somehow become a semi though.

A semi, my house doesnt even exist in the sim in any form but I am over that now, lol.
This is an area where the mix of trees makes the area look as stunning as it does. You need to remove the spaces in the link to see the image.
