EGNE
Two landings onto R21 and One onto R03 with no issues touching down.
Live weather set amd time set at 14:00.
How are you flying a Circuit in particular from Downwind to touchdown?
This is what I used to do at Liverpool.
Takeoff
Climb out to runway elevation +500 foot
15 degree max bank angle, turning left/right (say right for this explanation)
Climb to runway +1000 feet
Level off and reduce engine power to 1800/2000
Turn right 30 degree max
As you pass the end of the Runway ATC call, etc GAZ Downwind
Relax until halfway down runway when pre landing checks are undertaken
As you pass the end of the runway apply first stage flaps reduce power slightly
When Runway is in your 7 OāClock turn right 15 degree max bank angle
Call ATC and announce position
Plan when to turn only final, criteria is 700 foot above runway and at approach speed for the aircraft
Turn onto Final
Call ATC etc GAZ On Final
Maintain descent angle so you have the aiming point constant in the windshield adjust using pitch and power
In a C152 in practice I would aim to cross the airfield boundary at c60kts (village under approach at one end and river Mersey at the other) to give a safety margin. Then reduce power further and alter pitch so that as I crossed the runway threshold the airspeed would be 50 kts. At a few of feet above runway commence flare and hold the aircraft off the surface, look at the far end of the runway. Speed will decay, stall warning will sound and a gentle landing will result.
If your speed is to great you will be in ground effect, try to force it down and you will kangaroo, smooth and gentle is the key.
I know this is not a fault thread and as i said, it looked like an issue with the live winds and this is likely to vary over time. I suppose it might also have been something to do with ground effect.
The way it manifested itself was that every time i got to within a few feet of touching down there was a āKickā to one side, followed by what could be best described as a dive into the runway. I tried at a range of speeds and always the same effect. I have landed on this runway loads of times, with nothing like this ever happening. Taking off was a little hairy too, with what appeared to be a large crosswind, when the weather screen was reporting just 3knts, almost directly into my face. BTW, the Welcome map was reporting wind at around 50-60 degrees, yet when in the aircraft, at one end of the runway at least, it was reporting the wind at around 230 degrees.
Maybe it was just pilot error in wind conditions that i havenāt encountered previously.
This crosswind performance is measured at 90 degrees to the direction of the takeoff run.
Whatever direction the wind is blowing across a specific runway the wind is broken into two components, one blowing in the direction down the runway towards the aircraft and the other is the crosswind component. Its basic geometry, so sketch it out if my explanation is not making sense.
For a Piper Cherokee the max crosswind is 17kts and I remember putting one down into Liverpool at that crosswind, it was a real struggle.
Have a look at what the crosswind component is for a 152 and check how the wind blows before taking off on a specific runway and the same for landing.
Itās OK, i understand how the wind works and that taking off into the wind is a good idea. I did take off into the wind but there definitely seemed to be something that changed part way along the runway, to cause me issues, on takeoff and landing.
Iāll give it another try, as it might just have been odd live weather conditions when i tried it yesterday.
I learned to fly at Sunderland (sadly now Nissan UK) in the C150. It wasnāt uncommon for there to be a tailwind at both ends of runway 05/23, just had to watch the windsock.
When it got really rough Iād land across the runway!
I know the London Orbx scenery gets a bad rap, and itās not great, specially at night. But it does add a lot of buildings, I live down at the Wandsworth end and itās great to see so many recognisable buildings flyingv alone the river. I personally think by days is good, by night but so good. Think Canary Wharf is probably one of the worst parts if it along with the Shard.
But⦠Looking forward to UK update and live flying GA around UK. Is there is a discord for UK Iād join
Living near Oxford (woeful in the sim), did my PPL out of Enstone (EGTN), although I havenāt flown RW for a few years,
Developer of Plan-G. Currently flying round the world in various GA (donāt like airliners), started at RAF Abingdon, currently in Sri Lanka. No planned route - using random destination generator!
Just finished using LittleNavMap and BushTripInjector to create some UK based Bush Trips.
Zig Zag around all the major Lakes in the Lake District.
Shetlands to Scilly Isles
Cranfield to Caernarfon
Caernarfon to Blackpool via the Low Level and Barton.
See seperate thread about these Apps and give them a go, or PM me with email address and I will send the Zip file, just extract it to the Community folder and you will see the Bush Trip in the Bush Trip menu
I have found the same at a few airfields in different countries. Far more than a bit of wind shear - I suspect exactly what you say - some kind of weather boundary.
I have tried a few (via Discord - Microsoft FS channel). I am amazed at how easy it is - if everyone is on the same server it just works - even with 40 plus aircraft nearby. I enjoy a bit of formation flying - canāt get nearer than a wingspan before the program fades the other aircraft out: to avoid collisions I suppose. Ditto if someone lands close to you or flies into you (if only in real life!). Best MP ever though - no setup - only probs are large player tags that form a jumble from some angles, are not switchable from in-flight menu , and are visible from ~100NM away - no something sensible like 5Nm max.
