UK simmers where you at?!

How broken is the IFR especially in UK aerodromes? I’m an ex-Airline Captain wanting to relive the glory days (lol) but when this launched it was awful and not touched it since.

Ex-PPL I’ve only tried a couple of IFR flights (in the Bonanza) but frankly until they get the G1000/3000 sorted out it appears to be a hit-and-miss affair. Not so bad if you fly the procedures manually but ATC is also currently a bit rubbish.

As an ex-airline pilot I think you’d find it all still a bit (lot?) frustrating. But it does seem to be slowly improving - maybe give it another go?

Yes a rather patchy thing just like ATC which has odd phraseology, doesn’t seem to ever vector ppl into the approach for any into wind runway, and which insists on playing ‘radar controller tennis’ with us if we are exploring near any bounary which we usually are - as in who knows where they get those ones from?
Wether we ‘transmit’ ourselves via dialogue box or get ‘First Officer Oveur’ to handle comms, it is overly wordy and persistent - usually when I want to get ATIS or a tower controller call in edgeways.
I am sure they will fix all that one day - until then I mostly fly small/VFR. (One memorable approach in minimums to Sion though last week - but then the whole ‘big thing’ about this sim is terrain and ground detail so day VFR is my usual thing. When asked what aircraft we would like added I said ‘Edgley Optica’ and someone clever has ported in a FSX one - ideal for that (find in Flightsim.to). Also ideal for low-level spotting is the Wing 42 Bleriot XI (also great for very low speed not-so-controllable flight).

Checking in. From Surrey. Just outside Gatwick. Casual simmer since flightsim came out. Just ordered headset and thought I would try it out on fs when it arrives.

Flying out of Doncaster in South Yorkshire

Scotland here, Glasgow & Edinburgh

I too live near Preston, I often fly out of the same airports as yourself. I visit Barton from time to time to see what is actually flying, I have taken a helicopter flight over Media City.

I don’t know much about discord or whatever it is, do you use it? and do you fly multiplayer?

It must be the pretty soggy weather and the still too short days, in the UK, but I am making the most of the UTC-5hrs Caribbean, to get some sunshine flying done.

The scenery in the space between the islands can get a bit samey, but the islands are pretty good looking and offer some entertaining short hops and interesting landing challenges.

Me too - picked up a series of flight plans “Pilots of the Caribbean” and working my around. Started into the Bahamas today, planning to visit many of the little cays tomorrow. Usually I’m on live weather and traffic so if you see a purple Bonanza (N682FB) mooching around at low-level come and join me.

I may just do that and I tend to fly around in a WorkingTitle-modded CJ4.

It’s a very nice mod too.

I can recommend the Bonanza in Papa New Guinea, nice and light in the later evening here in the UK for day flights and it looks amazing

Will it land at Bugalaga?

My local Airport is East Midlands (EGNX). Waiting patiently for someone to release this airport as an Addon :+1:t2::+1:t2:

There’s a freeware one on flightsim.to that might be worth checking out.

East Midlands Airport - EGNX • Flight Simulator 2020

It does the job for me.

Excellent, I’ll take a look

@Minijaff01 , if you were the kind soul that has just refrained from entering runway 6, Edinburgh, as I was on short finals to land, when there was nobody else in the area, you have my thanks. It’s good to see people still check, even when ATC is telling you it’s clear to take off.

It’s a shame there isn’t an ingame local chat, where I could have been more certain that you’d get my thanks. I did turn on the flashing lights on the CJ4, but not sure you’d have seen that.

thanks again

Pretty sure it will! I’ve not used the Bonanza but i love it now, having used it in Papa i’d never use a Cessna there, its just about got the oomf and the power to climb where needed but its properly challenging there sometimes

Hi,
I have finally worked out how us old Gits can do Multiplayer…sort of… I don’t have an XBOX so needed to install the APP on Windows 10…
Now, I don’t have any friends in XBOX so managed to invite SM4RT4N117 as my FIRST friend… see how that goes.
I am Craggdog in here and XBOX thingy… Need more UK Friends if you are out there, to fly with maybe…
Thanks

Birmingham Simmer here! Been playing for a while and know my way around! Would love to get to know more people

Hi Craggdog! I am pretty new to all this myself but I have added you as a friend, so maybe see you in the air some time!
