UK update and photogrammetry

Following installation of the UK update and undertaking some test flights using different settings and reviewing some of the comments posted to date, the biggest issue I have is the photogrammetry for London. I attach screenshots of New York vs London, all with the same graphics settings, weather, time of day etc, the poor quality of London and poor FPS is self evident. Both are high density cities but I am struggling to understand why these issues should arise! Have ASOBO acknowledged this is an issue and if so I hope they will resolve this as soon as possible!

I got the same issue, and I believe the reason for this is the big amount of the hq handrafted landmarks that you won’t find that much in NYC. Having photogrammetry among lot’s of a high quality handcrafted landmarks (and some of them are even animated) comes at the cost of perfomance.

If that is the issue it begs the question why have high quality crafted landmarks if those landmarks can already be captured by the photogrammetry images? In any event the handcrafted images in London stand out like a sore thumb as has been pointed out by others! Surely you should not mix the two?

I’m not sure if the PG that the World Updates add to the sim, i.e. Tokyo, London etc, have the same coding structure as those already present in Bing Maps.

Their coverage is very limited too, see (London, Tokyo) vs (NYC, LA, Miami). London is only covered form east of LCY in the east to Piccadilly Circus in the west. Tokyo quite the same, only downtown. They are very scarce as especially compared to their extensive Google PG coverage.

I have a love-hate relationship with photogammetry. I hate it because it’s awful. It’s been awful since I first jumped into this sim. London PG is unplayable for me unless I fly very slow, and even using the drone cam is stuttery. My settings are as low as I can tolerate too.

On the other hand, PG is lousy everywhere, so this isn’t much of a surprise. But the performance in London is abysmal. Yet, PG also looks strangely good. I can’t fly without it…despite obelisks for trees and pointy buildings from a distance.

I wish they’d come up with a different approach so we’re not flying around in some kind of apocalyptic wasteland, either up close or from a distance.

Hi all, please use the topic in Bugs & Issues that @anon41762628 pointed out so it’s kept track of.

Thank you!
