ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
Operate MSFS 2024 from within XBOX platform on PC. On Cessna 172 Basic I am unable to correctly calibrate air pressure settings on altimeter. For example, just now current QNH at Glasgow EGPF is 1018 hpa and airfield altitude is 23 ft. However, in order to get altimeter reading 23 ft I have to set it to 1001 hpa which is quite a significant difference in pressure altitude, several hundred feet. (Yesterday I had to calibrate to 995 hpa to obtain correct height when QNH was actually 1021 hpa). The issue is replicated at other airfields throughout the world. Prior to the latest update the problem was intermittent and would sometimes even correct itself midflight with a sudden swing in altimeter needle, however it has been permanently in this state since most recent update. I can correctly set altimeter in other aircraft, so issue seems to be with Cessna 172 basic,

If applicable, which aircraft is experiencing this issue:
Cessna 172 Skyhawk Basic

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue? No mods

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? Every time

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Have tried commencing flight at various airports throughout world but issue prevails.
  2. Have tried other aircraft and can correctly set altimeter in them no problem.
  3. Have verified current QNH readings from both within MSFS and other external sources to ensure it is correct. I always fly with live weather on.

I have also problems with altimeter settings.

I think it is associated to corrupt live weather.

Yea, you may be right, although I manage to keep live weather at the moment by minimizing the weather window and not shutting it. If you close the window it seems to set weather back to custom.
I also posted too soon. Further tests reveal I cannot set QNH on various steam gauge altimeter aircraft. Glass cockpits are fine thought. Take the Cessna G1000 with both glass and steam. The G1000 altimeter can be accurately set but if you set the analogue altimeter in same cockpit to same QNH then you can be as much as 600 feet out from runway elevation.

Yes, so its been an issue for past 2 years and nothing has been done about it. It also seems that few people actually bother about it which confirms my suspicion that MSFS is primarily used as an arcade game and not for realism. I recently invested a lot in a decent sim set up to further my skills learned from a long ago achieved PPL but find myself having to fly aircraft with altimeter several hundred feet out which ruins it for me. I also recently watched a youtube video of a Cessna 172 G1000 and when the shot panned over the cockpit I could see the steam gauge altimeter QNH was way off the G1000 QNH, so its a widespread issue. This should be an easy fix for Asobo but doesn’t appear to be a priority. I’m giving 2024 another couple of months before going to XPlane if things don’t improve.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• YES

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• YES, it is actually a more complex issue : the scale is reversed, so not only the altimeter setting readable on the window is not the one considered by the altimeter, but moving the QNH down increses indicated altitude which in reality should be the opposite : increasing altimeter setting increases indicated altitude.

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

Yes, I can confirm. Such a basic feature to get right…

Altitude and barometric pressure are inversely proportional.

The thing that bugs me with this is in the US we get pressure readings in Inches of Mercury which the gauge is Hectopascal. As far as I know there is no way to change this in the Basic Cessna 172. I should maybe learn to convert it but ■■■■ thats just another step.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• Yes every flight - have set units in language to US

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• Cannot change Altimeter units to US in the C172 they are metric only

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:
• As OP
