Unable to set up wind

For airmen in the real world, wind is a universal & sometimes critical consideration in all phases of flight, for any type of aircraft, anywhere in the world. Those designing & coding any serious “flight simulator” surely know this & would make setup of wind conditions straightforward, and actually work.
I’ve been trying to set up wind in my MSFS runs. Seems simple: select the departure airport, hit FLIGHT CONDITIONS, hit the wind icon for MEAN GROUND LEVEL, type in the desired wind speed (or move the speed slider), rotate the direction arrow as desired. Then hit CLOSE, & FLY. I also tried adding an extra wind layer & setting up as above.
Problem is, no wind ever showed up. Why not? What am I doing wrong? Do I need to do something else, in addition to and/or instead of?
My post: “Where’s the Wind?” to Community Support > Weather & Live Weather describes my efforts and results in more detail. I assumed that those who coded MSFS know how use their own creation & would help. No such luck.
Forum Moderator Team moved my post to #SelfService:Weather, meaning that you, fellow MSFS users, must already know why what I did to get wind doesn’t work & how to do it right. Please help.
I’m posting this to Community Support > Basic Gameplay Help because I could not find #SelfService:Weather as a category or anything else. Could Forum Moderator Team help me here?

Do not bother setting your wind in the world planner stage - load your route then press FLY NOW, when in the cockpit, load your wind using the top toolbar ribbon, it works then
