Some respectul adition or correction: it will be amazing!
If we need a yes/no answer, I would lean yes they will continue doing the right thing. If weāre talking degree of confidence, there is a chance, maybe 20% where i have doubt theyāll be able to fix things completely up to what they thought they were delivering.
Have you seen the 10 year plan? Or just that they will envision developing new features for 10 years āif it makes economical senseā. My emphasis on how you these promises need to be interpreted. Everything is about the money.
Best, most ambitious out of the box sim I have ever flown.
We are in the early adoption/bug phase in the life of a sim on its way to maturity and eventually irrelevance.
I really appreciate the transparency of the developers, and I like what they have done thus far.
Canāt wait to see what it becomes in the years to come.
And therein lies the problem, that isnāt what it was priced or sold as. Thus the pitchforks.
And with my first comment in mind, it is really the opposite of transparency in my opinion.
I couldnāt agree more. Despite its bumpy start, Iāve enjoyed flying in this sim than any I have tried in quite a while.
And it already has a very healthy third party scene growing.
Yes, money makes the monkey dance. And judging by the steam statistics, this monkey will be dancing for a long time unless their failure to address critical issues becomes the norm in the long-term. In the past 30 days, MSFS2020 has nearly 3 times as many peak players on Steam as X-plane 11 & FSX combined.
When X-plane was released on Steam, it had 151 peak players, FSX had 1829, and MSFS2020 had 61,829. Iām gonna go ahead and say theyāll be fine.
My personal view, as primarily an airliner flyer:
Release version 1.7.3 -> Absolutely loved it for all its flaws, including taking 3 days to download. Paid for Premium and believed it was worth every penny. Sim of the future arrived! Knew well it was ābetaā and believed future updates would only get better. Did my part to report bugs to ZenDesk. Monthly updates were coming - fantastic. FSX SP1 took much longer (6 months?). So far so good.
Release version 1.8.3 -> Download problems persisted but a minor annoyance. Still loving it but frustration started to creep in as autopilot for A320 started to break with engine shutting off midflight. Felt like focus was on fixing GA at the expense of Airliners. Be patient I said to myself. Overall, still feeling pretty good because the visuals / graphics are just stunning. Night lightning reflecting off the water, wave texture, clouds, etc, all just superb. When I want my fix, its on the Icon and flying off places like Gibraltar at night. The scenery graphics are just that good!
Release version 1.9.4. Download problem persisted. It is what it is. A320 airliner engine fixed, but VFR map now causes CTD, and the rest of the AP for all airliners still not fixed. Now Iām a little disappointed but again, be patient as airliners are complex. Off to Gibraltar to enjoy the awesome graphics. To my surprise, the night lighting reflection changed for the worse - amber lights no longer reflect. Then I changed locations to inspect, same thing. Water reflections now looking like an oil slick in clear weather. Winds only create small unrealistic wave sizes. I own several boats in real life and have spent lots of time in the water to have an idea. Then buildings afar now looking like melted objects because LOD levels seem to have changed. Now Iām confused thinking this is no longer the same sim. What happened? Rumors started the downgrade is in preparation for XBOX. Really? If true, Iām not amused. Why not give us a slider to choose some of these options?
Bottom line: My view has changed over time. My initial amazement and awe have slowly turned to frustration and annoyance because I feel the value proposition of the sim slowly being taken away. Its up to ASOBO/MS and their upcoming releases to change my current perspective for the better.
I mean, I get that people want a bug free experience.
With sims, that never happens upon release. Either you like early adoption, and waiting for patches, or you donāt.
But it isnāt like any other recent sims were bug free out of the box. X-Plane 11? Hahahahaha! It was a nightmare upon release.
Sandbox games are similar. This is the most groundbreaking software I have downloaded since Witcher 3 and Witcher 3 was so buggy upon release, you still see memes about those bugs to this day.
I am one of those weirdos who likes the early phase when everyone is flying and complaining.
People online complaining about bugs is an art as old as the internet itself.
Iāve seen raytracing, and itās not that impressive.
Most of these things are made specifically for games with smaller scenes anyway.

The graphics crowd is happy, the simmers are not. [/quote]
Being a simmer since the begin of the Flight simulation in the 80s, I find this comment insulting to say the least. In fact used FSX and P3D extensively to help my real life flight training. While the aircraft are not study level YET. I see the potential of this platform and am confident that by the time this platform reaches its 1 year birthday - it will have a majority of the nuances ironed out. So yes this SIMMER finds this platform amazing and see the potential for it to be the best in class.
Here here. Well Said.
You could put a positive spin on that. Theyāve used technology that has been available to all and produced a result that is way better than anything LM and LR have come up with. A revolutionary and cutting-edge way of using existing technology.
Even better, when they take advantage of the newer tech, things will likely improve even more.
I am another one that thinks it is amazing.
You think this is bad? Oh please. FSX was as half-baked as Microsoftās Windows Me was. At least after that fiasco was released based strictly on its promised timeframe it had some kind of half-a$$ support. FSX was dumped by Microsoft soon thereafter with the liquidation of ACES Studio.
And here we are once again. Except this time Microsoft isnāt producing it and there seems to be a long term commitment from the studio who is.
Iād put the accountability on QA and the overall process of reviews at the time of design and development.
Out of curiosity, what kind of hardware does ray tracing require?
Yes, the numbers are stronger than those older games but itās more about how they are doing compared to projections, not other games. Being 1st place but having too much to chew off still means itās not economically viable. Right now theyāre fine but there better be some good patches.
Btw, I wouldnāt count fsxās steam release since that was not the initial release.
Are you seriously claiming that they didnāt meet projections? Weāre talking about a simulator that sold over a million copies by the first week of September. Do you have any information to back that up?
Iāll go out on a limb and say theyāre satisfied with those numbers and likely very excited about the upcoming potential with the VR & Xbox releases.
There is zero cause for alarm.
I am no expert but learned during my search for a low cost yet powerful GPU that Nvidiaās RTX models can do ray tracing while the GTX models cannot. Plus, the software must offer ray tracing and to my knowledge MSFS does not (yet?) offer such support. Thus I got a GTX 1660s
I think I asked this before, but what do users think they are going to get with ray tracing, that we donāt have now? It wonāt add performance, thatās for sure.
On some aircraft, like the Savage Cub, there is so some apparent lensing effects going on with parts of the canopy. It could assist with those I suppose, or perhaps lead to better fidelity while flying through rain, or reflections on a wet runway.
These effects may come with a cost. Although that may be swallowed by someone like myself that has a 1080, and any RTX capable card would be a sizeable upgrade, so it would still likely offer better performance with those features enabled.
