I have this darn overlay on Windows FS and I don’t know how to get rid of it. I think its a developer overlay. I don’t know where it came from.

Have you turned off developer mode in the sim options?

From memory because I am using a tablet, PC/sim not on…
Options, general, developers, then switch developer mode off. The option menus are not that difficult to find and search through.
