Is it normal that as soon as I reach exactly 10000ft, my propellers go into feather mode and I lose power? I will read the manual because I never did but just wanted to see if it was normal… I never experienced this behavior before the update.

It’s really weird…without touching controls it would get back to life under 10000ft and cut above 10000ft.

edit : I would like to add that there was also a cloud layer starting at 10000ft, is there anything getting triggered from entering the clouds? At first I thought Pitot heat, it was on and I could go above and under that 10000ft mark and my engine rpm would go from feather to On and off …feels like a bug to me …

Bought it after seeing the new version drop and I just can’t get it into the air without it swerving and drifting down the runway… granted I had a 15kt crosswind but the plane is just uncontrollable, even with full down alerion into the wind and stepping hard on the rudder I just weathervane uncontrollably into the wind until it hits 80kts then it swerves the opposite way suddenly and I’m drifting sideways down the runway…

Assuming this is common this with this plane? Will try again with less wind but my first impression was pretty sour…

Make sure you have the engine boost pumps set to EMERGENCY when at 10,000’ or above. Also, not specifically related, make sure you have the pilot oxygen valve turned ON at 10,000’ or above or you will develop hypoxia and eventually crash.

Thank you , I will try that to see if it works

Edit : I have hypoxia disabled btw …

I totally understand what you’re describing and it was the same for me with their spitfire. I have to apply back pressure to control it but I honestly think this is not how it should be or there would’ve been more dead on takeoff than the actual battlefield during world wars lol …

Not sure what it is but they never fixed it and I’m not sure what is wrong with the way they program their aircraft.

You will still need to set the engine fuel pumps to EMERGENCY when at 10,000’ or above. This is right out of the FlyingIron manual for the plane, and that tracks with the guidance provided in the original WWII-era P-38 flight manual (available online via some Googling).

want some high?

is it not too fast for this alt?

Not seeing that here, that sounds like the ground handling from the original release but I just tried a takeoff with a moderate crosswind with 1.0.1 and it was perfect. Needed some rudder correction for the wind during the takeoff roll but it felt very smooth and consistent with no sudden changes.

guys, how to defrost cabin?

I believe there is a small red knob on the right side of the canopy that says “cockpit heat”

It feels like some people experience this and some don’t. I’ve re-installed the simulator a few times and this was always an issue for me. I have the steam version. Don’t know what’s causing this for some people. I’m using the saitek rudder pedals.

i can hear wind after choice external view then back to normal, is not problem for me, as i don’t use external and almost too soft word for this, but for other people it can be matter, and situation with environment sound(not engine - birds boats, cars, aerodrome sounds) stay bad, all sound same like canopy open, in milviz corsair same, but there sound all the time like canopy closed, in your’s guys lightning sound of environment like all the time cockpit is open… again it’s not about engine, engines sound change and do it very nice with left and right window

Can you try with a strong crosswind like I described? I was using live weather and it was almost 90 deg across the runway at 15kts. Maybe a bit too much for this plane, I doubt it’s anything that varies person to person aside from the wind conditions we’re testing in.

I’ll try it again tonight under hopefully more sedate conditions.

The poor ground handling at takeoff is a very well known bug of the simulator and is a problem for everyone.

I don’t understand why you think reinstalling the simulator will help fix it.

Asobo is addressing the issue to some extent in SU6 and some more in SU7. I imagine it will take a few releases to really fix the issue.

It’s especially pronounced when you have any crosswind (yes, a 15 knot crosswind is a relatively hefty crosswind for a small plane like this). It has several causes, but it’s said it’s mostly due to the tire friction model.

I have over the last year maybe 3 times but not in the past 3-4 months. I mentioned it because someone else said it seems like an issue from the beginning of the simulator. It is only happening to me on the spitfire , the P39 , the piper and the gotgravel before they fixed it.

If I apply back pressure , it helps a lot. But from what I see on YouTube from other user , it seems the effect is 5x more drastic on my game… dunno why , for me it goes straight and smooth until I’m at about 50knots and then bam !!! I get swing around left and right and struggle to hold it on the tarmac

Purchased today & have had 1 flight & 1 attempt.
Very impressed with the aircraft FDE & sounds.
I have 1 query though - all my aircraft spawn as a hot start.
The first flight spawned ok with engines running & all levers in their correct pre departure positions & responsive to the throttle & mouse.
The 2nd flight spawned with engines running & the gauges (RPM & MP) responded if I blipped the throttle, but all the levers, (Throttle, Mix & Prop.), were in the closed positions & did not respond to joystick or mouse inputs.
Any thoughts on what might be causing this?

Just gave it a try, with a 90 degree 15 knot crosswind and it was still smooth, just needed some aileron too.

The way the sim works with wind set at 15 it was only really giving about 8 knots at the surface, so I cranked it up to 30 knots to get closer to 15 while sitting on the runway. Even then, the takeoff roll through rotation at 100 mph was no problem, needed a lot of rudder and aileron but still there were no sudden changes and it never felt uncomfortable.

Are you sure you got the 1.0.1 download? And if you had a previous version did you delete it before upgrading?
