When will we see any kind of explanation as to what is going on with the installation/servers.
very slow
constantly presumably failing and restarting
looping and restarting
This is with installation of the game, not just the recent mandatory update.
It’s the same on 3 of my pc’s which are all good spec, lots of fast storage, good net connection. I have heard and read many similar comments from others.
Part of me is thinking it may not be worth installed due to it becoming a CTD fest.
Having invested in a high performance rig and all the extra hardware to experience the game it’s terribly disappointing some 11 months post release.
Including a brief overview of the problem in release notes (an admission of its occurrence) with no adequate route to fix it (I followed all of it) for a mandatory update that renders the game uninstallable (never mind unplayable) is very poor.
I write as a former game studio head and am well aware of pressures and such but whoever authorised release of the recent update/installation code needs to have a word with themselves.
I’m a big fan of the game when working, I’d just like to play it and even be able to install it.
My desktop on which msfs was running perfectly since august 2020, got a bit messy through the years so i decided to do a clean install of win 10.
I did all updates and installed latest GPU drivers (and English/Us language pack). Then i wanted to install msfs again, it loads/installs from the store correctly but when started for the first time it CTD’s when the first scenery screen (some castle) appears, so it never goes to download game content.
I tried every possible solution zendesk offered, nothing helped.
Then i tried to install on another desktop with the same outcome.
My issues with the server are nothing to do with it, I can download from the msstore at 10x the speed the installer is doing, my connection is not throttled. If anything it seems to be capped from the Microsoft/Asobo end.
I am reading lots of reports and seeing it for myself that it appears broken, updates and installation was fine prior to U5 last week.
I saw that the app was updated yesterday (Sunday) and there is little difference, the installer still fails on the packages. I’ve just tried changing the install path (always was set on default) so will see if that makes any difference.
After 4 attempts to reinstall failed, I started looking at my system, which I was reluctant to as I only use the rig for MSFS and it was fine until the update last week.
Anyway I got thinking what may else have changed and tried a system restore from a couple of weeks ago.
Things weren’t quite right and after making a note of major changes to the game & system and 3rd party installs and stuff, I took a derp brief and bit the bullet and reinstalled win 10.
Am Noww reinstalling and am 46gb in, which is by far more promising than anything else I’d tried, so fingers crossed it’ll be good to go.
Sorry if you’ve suffered similar problems and were maybe hoping for an easy fix, I only have a fairly brutal one.
I still am not sure what went wrong, maybe some network/net related settings in the register.
@daspadger Good, because I was just about ready to ask you exactly WTF you were talking about because it wasn’t happening to me. In fact, I went so far as to fire up MSFS before a reboot I’m otherwise just about ready to do to see if I was in fact missing an update or something that caused the symptoms you were discussing.
But I have had zero problems with this update, or for that matter, with any of them, except waaaaay back when an update was causing CTDs that they issued a hotfix for. Turns out my CTDs that I was getting at the time had nothing to do with the update (I don’t remember which, sorry), rather it was the “You clicked on the wrong place” update with a couple of Carenado planes, which they have subsequently fixed.
At the risk of going off topic, if a Carenado rep happens to be reading this, I lost my licenses thanks to an issue with MS that is not your fault. Having said that, if you can help me recover them, I would appreciate it, please contact me via PM to discuss further.
Back on topic, OP, I’m glad you’re having fewer problems. In the future, before you go so far as to do a complete reinstall, try running an sfc /scannow in an administrator version of the cmd app. If that doesn’t help, you can try an in-place reinstall of Windows with your files and apps intact (something that I do regularly even without symptoms as it’s always to have a fresh copy of winders running.)
NOTE: As I am not acting in the role of a paid professional with this advice, I cannot and will not be held responsible if it doesn’t work. While I think the advice is sound, I don’t know enough about the totality of the situation to say that with absolute certainty. If you choose to follow my advice, you do so at your own risk.
Well I only use my Pc for MSFS (I have a few PCs) and I have a lousy combination of impatience and no time to spend ages working out why Windows had somehow screwed up.
I was fortunate that choosing an otherwise crazy resolution was essentially nothing to loose.
