Update: Savage Carbon - STOL Realism Mod (v2.10 / Dec 27, 2022)

Hand on the throttle TG when using Flap 3…it’s a drag monster!

Indeed :grinning:
It’s verging on a hover that I need to refine.
Throttle to pull fwd, Flappers 3 restraining.
BTW, like the new ‘stance’. Reminds me of the low down back view of my '95 Corvette - fat & wide. & she who shall not be named.

TG, just have that stall horn chirping in your ear with throttle, but when it goes full throated aggravation, be close to the ground. Sorta like the difference between Marge sweet talking you, and going full on hammerhead to your cranial cavity

Being partially deaf means I don’t pick up an audible stall warning.
Is there one?
& fat & wide was a reference to the neighbors cat.

There definitely is one, and the stall horn is pretty important to land at the low airspeeds we do. In such a case, if you can’t hear it, I would limit my airspeed to no less than 30 kts. to be safe. Any less than that and you should feel the a/c to start feeling mushy and harder to control. BTW, a good exercise would be to approach stall at a safe altitude, get a lower airspeed and see how the a/c responds to approaching stall speeds. Flap 3 requires a lot of power, between 4500 and 5000 rpm, depending on your AOA, to get out of the stall at landing, and you need to use it quickly.

and a great excuse to ignore Marge!!!

Thank you for the update!
Is buoyancy already present on the wheel? If yes, I think I was over-expecting its effect, I came for my first flare watching for a bounce but it ended in a crash… I did a couple of other tests with longer touch but couldn’t really tell the difference with the previous update.

I like the way it stalls when you play too much with flap 3, there is a limit and you need to play with it…
I find: when you are far too slow, it safer to fly straight or on a right turn. Stalling the right wing gives me a little more chance to recover with more power and reduced AoA. Once the left wing is gone, close to the ground I can’t recover.

MERRY CHRISTMAS…AGAIN! “WATERSKI” v1.1.1 RELEASED

DOWNLOAD from FLIGHTSIM.TO

CHANGE LOG

  • Water skiing! Wheels now have buoyancy and the water hardens with speed.
  • Widened wheelbase.
  • Propeller 3D model enlarged to match the 82" Whirlwind GA-200L-STOL prop.
  • Further improved King Shocks dampening and off-road suspension behaviour.
  • Propeller angle changed from 15 to 16 degrees, giving more power, higher cruise speed and less engine redlining.
  • Bushwheel drag decreased by about 8% (was too high), further increasing cruise speed (120kts at sea level, 110kts higher up).
  • Weight increased to 650lbs, taking into account the new engine and bigger tires.
  • Mains moved forward a few inches…harder to go nose over.
  • Oil warms up less quick and cools down much slower at idle speeds.
  • More black and more smooth Bushwheels (but the treads are still there).
  • Removed cowling Transformer logo reflection from all liveries but BumbleBee (oops).
  • Increased “Edge Performance” branding font size on the cowling.
  • Raised multiplayer aircraft model a few inches to align with the runway better.

NOTES ON WATERSKIING

Water related physics in MSFS are currently far from complete or perfect and things can occasionally get bumpy. Water spray is not in the sim yet, and neither are wakes.

While practicing your mermaid skills, I would for now highly recommend to set CRASH DAMAGE to OFF (in the Assistance menu). At least until you’re more comfortable with this. Expect some wet feet at first…

Santa indeed! :santa:Thanks a lot, looking forward flying with it and try out the new features. Merry Xmas to you aswell!

H&M always fly ‘crash damage OFF’, otherwise they would be in the repair shop constantly. :grinning:
Many thanks for another great update.

Fantastic new update GG. Tried a few landings on land and see the improvements. Lovely to see the tyres squash as they touch down. Tried a few water ski runs and need to buy new shoes as very wet but when yawing back it takes off beautifully on the water. Tyres come up on top of the water and ski off, beautiful. Needs a bit of work on my part to perfect a drier landing. Well done old chap. Look forward to seeing you in the Alaska flight on Saturday I hope.

Thank you SO MUCH for this fantastic aircraft!

The other day it was fairly windy in Scotland and it felt like a freaking helicopter. I literally landed on a strip with practically no runway needed. It was too much of a pain to taxi in the gusts, so I took off for a short “trip” to the parking spot. Ha! Landed there full-on helicopter mode.

Quick flight out of 0AA5, Rangeview Airstrip, to test, what by my reckoning, is v8
I discovered I again forgot the engines.cfg tweak to enable the AP.
Anyhow, in the shot below I noticed some hardware/ mini fairings/ bent washers/ turbulators?? under the tail plane trailing edge.
They are for??
I was going to say it flies like a wet tire dream, but Marge objected.

So nice,
I didn’t try it in Devmode and went directly waterskiing with crash enabled, luckily I had a lot of training with the former version. It works as expected, I made ten successive water-flare then I crashed when I was too confident…

It’s time to explore…

(This screenshot was taken with the first big wheel version, just before a water crash)
