First flight in my new Grravel Taildragger. I’ve tried taking off 5 times (750 ft. dirt runway) and crashed every time.
I’ve learned to s-l-o-w-l-y add power until the tail comes up, then add power smoothly to reach Vr.
The problem is, when I add power the plane steers violently to the right, I overcompensate with left rudder, then right rudder to try and save it, and end up skidding off the runway.
I’ll get it eventually. I think I’ll try a longer, wider grass field until I do. ![]()
But any tips from veteran Grravel flyers would be appreciated.
The plane is a beast, for sure. I can’t even imagine what flipping the NOS switch will feel like! ![]()
