This is a a follow up to the following post where I’ve just found the contributing factor and a workaround. I’ve reported my findings to ZenDesk.
Spin knobs (heading, altitude, etc.) turning with mouse wheel are sluggish - Archives / Bugs & Issues - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums
Quick summary of the issue: Spin any knob on any aircraft with the mouse wheel and it will turn very slowly and often get stuck momentarily; particularly, in the counterclockwise (left/decrement) direction. Turning any knob can be exhausting. I tend to the fly the A320 and Beechcraft Baron G58 and so know it happens with these two.
The problem only occurs when you have certain quick access menus (ATC, VFR Map) opened as a “popout” window. Since day 1 (at least since update 5 (1.10.7.0) when the problem first started happening) I’ve been flying with the Map open as a window and placed on a 2nd monitor and so have always run into this problem. I’ve just now discovered that if I “close” that window (have it displayed as an integrated window in the sim or closed entirely), the problem does not occur. With a quick access item opened as a window, it seems to be pilfering mouse events.
So if you find you’re having difficulty turning various knobs, look for any open “popped out” quick access menus and close them at least temporarily while you make instrument changes, and see if that helps.
